You read into “western” history, it’s nothing but cousin wars in the same country. Some of these cities they started in Europe were mutual defense communes to get away from lawless nobles and religious grifters. Then those people they get away from eventually follow them, grift their way into well meaning things, take it over and turn it into a torment nexus. Those problems are still happening to this day. Whole reason they found this country was to get away from each other.
