Should WWE bring back Attitude or something like it?

The same TNA that was drawing bigger ratings and more viewers when he was writing, without any of the promotion, than the current WWWF product?

The same TNA that was canceled by Spike because of his existence. How come no REAL Tv show ever hired him?

Not here to add anything brand new, but yeah, bringing back the Attitude Era isn't the answer. It worked in its time because of what life was like back then. Things were edgier and more risque than they had ever been on television. You had Jerry Springer, you had South Park, you had American Pie in the theaters, you had Eminem blowing up. The shock factor was at an all-time high and the WWE captured it in its product. It was one of the last times the company responded to what was going on around them.

They can't do any of that in 2018 because people won't allow it. The culture isn't like that anymore. The world is more "progressive," so bringing back the Attitude Era isn't something that captures the current landscape. They should be looking at what the Attitude Era did right and emulate those things. I saw a RAW script in 2000 that was only a couple pages compared to now, where everything the wrestlers do and say is scripted right down to the bone. They need to have more faith in their talent that they can put on an entertaining product without having the leash on them all the time.

I go back to this a lot, but the quality isn't even as high as it was back in 2008. Ten years ago, they were still trying to tell coherent stories, or have some sort of long-term booking. Characters were unique, with their own personal motivations for doing things. Everyone felt like legitimate competitors that I could take seriously. There was still a small touch of grit and magic in what they were putting out. If they can't even bring back the same quality they had in 2008, what makes you think they could bring back the quality from 1998?

They need to borrow from game of thrones and soprano type shows.... Have factions, backstabbing, plotting, making moves, twists, turns, realistic motives, set ups, betrayals, alliances, compelling dialogue, Easter eggs, long story archs..... shyt is not that hard

This could had been the case for the overdrawn "Authority" angle. During the whole brand split AGAIN, I thought we was going to have a civil war type of angle with wrestlers going to different sides and it was up to the fans to pick a side to ride with. Yet, nope :shaq2:, same ole bullshyt, a lower rating plunge.

Attitude era would never fly today. People are raving about getting christmas songs banned now, AE style programming would cause an outrage.

But I really don't think you need that stuff. Honestly, a lot of the attitude era hasn't aged well, but they could still borrow a lot from that era.

Making it feel a little grittier and less polished. There's ways to do that without it looking cheap, and lord knows WWE has the money and production know how to do it right.

Way less scripting of promos and micro managing wrestlers in general. Getting them invested in making shyt their own and learning to ad lib. Keep it somewhat contained of course, but let guys shoot on each other a bit, ala Bret/Shawn, HHH, Rock.

I almost feel like a bit of throwback to 80s/early 90s would go over well today. Larger than life characters like the Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Million Dollar Man, etc. We've had enough of the MMA influence, ROH workrate indy shyt with joe blow average guy. Give us some lunatics and coked up wackos again. Done right, that stuff is fun to people young and old.

I know it'll never be grade A writing like The Wire, Sopranos etc, but treat the writing and long term storylines with some respect.

They'll NEVER do this, but I also think the product is way overexposed in general. Shorters RAWs, fewer PPVs would go a long way.

:aicmon:"attitude" is the last thing WWE needs at this point. Crash TV was a product of the mid to late 90s. That type of era is not going to work in a modern day setting. Its like this, the main problem with wrestling nowadays is the fact that it's trying to do this whole MMA "relatable" shyt. I don't want a full damn government name in my professional wrestling unless it has a nick name in the quotes. How you want to appeal to a new era of kids when you got boring ass names like "Dean Ambrose" or "Kevin Owens". I mean why wrestling got to be reality tv at this point? The shyt is fake:dahell:. Scratch the real names and make the characters larger than life. I don't want to get a coffee with Braun Stroman, I want to be fukking terrified of him:whoa:. ITS WRESTLING! The main reason why I watched wrestling and continue to do so is because of the character aspect along with the fukkery. As a child, I thought the Undertaker was catching bodies in the ring, I thought HBK was wrong for throwing Marty through the window, and I was in awe at Hogan getting crushed by Yokozuna. How you expect a wrestling fan in 2018 to take a smiling happy go lucky heel seriously:mindblown:? I watch wrestling to escape from the woes of a condescending world. Bottom line, WWE just needs to embrace it's inner carny. They will never get as popular as they were during the Attitude era because times done change. The internet exposed the ins and outs of the business. So might as well just carry on with the show to a niche market. Meaning the following:

  • fukkery and lots of it
  • Promos and segments like the good ole days beyond a wrestler looking like a retard at the monitor backstage
  • Take the women division seriously
  • ENOUGH OF THE REALISM shyt
All in all, wrestling is pretty much a male soap opera. The moment WWE realize that as a collective, the better. Until then it's all rating freefall and more plotholes than a Tyler Perry movie:camby:

The shyt feels like these guys play a character on TV for two hours and then go back to being a regular Joe. Like if I see Braun Strowman doing a interview... I don't want to hear some humble guy boasting about how humble he is to be in the WWE and how he loves his life and cracking jokes. I want to see him talk about how he gonna go into a match cracking hands and giving fades

This right here.

Wrestling has only been good when it’s tapped into the people’s general tastes of the times

Right now suspense and drama are what has people’s interest

Dallas, Texas but living in Houston, Texas
Different era. In the late 90s Jerry Springer and South Park was king. Stuff going on was unheard of. The company was more in tune with what society was about. Nowadays the world is too PC and there is nothing shocking that will make people tune in. Love and Hip Hop gets better ratings than Raw and it's filled with fukkery.

The attitude era also had people you wanted to see. Austin was a redneck from Texas but people of all races and backgrounds could relate because he was the underdog who kept getting screwed over by the boss. How many people wish they could beat the shyt out of their boss and not get fired?! You could live through Austin's experience. The Rock was that cool jock in high school or college that always got the girl and was just a smooth ass dude. Always dressed fresh, had swagger, etc. He was the dude you wanted to hang with and if you were a woman the guy you wanted to fukk. DX was the anti-authority guys who just didn't give a fukk. The type of dudes who you would want to party with, smoke weed, etc.

That era can never be duplicated because the 90s was a much different period than the 2010s. Just make compelling storylines, push people who the fans want, and also less is more. Even with streaming make the product compelling so you HAVE to watch live. Stop giving ppv matches for free and stop running the same people over and over.

Reality is though is they have no reason to change because they're making too much money. Ratings are down but Raw is still the best rated show on USA. Outside of Raw what do people watch on USA? Modern Family reruns? SVU marathons?

Until they stop making huge profits they don't really need to change.

Ruthless Aggression needs to come back. Not the garbage azzz faux Xtreme 90s crash tv.

Though I agree 90's Crash TV doesn't need to come back (nor could they even evoke that same emotion in 2018), but let's not forget some of the things Ruthless Aggression brought us
