I can argue that by paying the debts, the translator is just acting as an agent and the bets were for ohtani. If I have a personal assistant, and the assistant buys 2 keys of cocaine with my money, you can bet the feds will start looking at me. You can argue it all you want but you need to actually prove the bets were for Ohtani which is much more difficult

I can't wait to see what the investigation turns up.

Just looking at it logically, worse case, the bets are for ohtani and the translator is just his agent, best case, ohtani is just naive and unwillingly helped aid an illegal book making operation.

This is a fun scandal for MLB. The 700 million dollar face of the League moving like a 21st century Pete Rose, and you have the upcoming move of the A's to Vegas.
