As Long as u have people in congress and our government invested into it, it's not going away
They're still people, breh. Human beings. A significant amount of inmates are serving time for nonviolent, victimless crimes that most Americans have committed at one point in their lives. They don't deserve to live in a shythole.
Outside of the assault on guards I really don't have a problem with anything in that article. If it were up to me they would be living in even worst conditions and doing slave labor.
Funny how people are championing socialism because of the failure of a private prison.
States sign contracts with the owners of these private prisons and are obligated to keep them at 90% capacity (% may vary from state to state).
this means that people are being arrested and sentenced in order to fulfill a contract...that's fukked up.
This is immoral and inhumane to the core.
One positive example, of how many inequitable, dangerous, and murky privatization schemes in this country?
wait wait...but shouldn't the free private market fix all of our problems??

You're wrong but this is a big misconception about people serving time. There are literally millions of poor black/brown men in jail for committing the same nonviolent drug crimes that are committed by white people in suburbs who never see the inside of a prison. Studies have shown that drug use occurs evenly across all racial groups, and some even suggest that whites use drugs at a higher rate (in terms of pure numbers there are far more white drug users than black ones).
if you in prison you did some fukked up shyt get the fukk outta here wit that shyt

Millions of people are caught up in the prison system as a result of marijuana use, yet few reasonable people would classify smoking weed as being fukked up. I can't think of any other country in the world that incarcerates people for years for committed nonviolent drug crimes where nobody is harmed. Not to mention the fact that marijuana is less harmful/addictive than alcohol and tobacco, two drugs that are legal. That's a different topic though.
Edit: You should check out Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow" if you have the time. She breaks down how the War on Drugs has targeted black men for nonviolent drug crimes much better than I can.
I don't smoke but that's not the point. You said that everyone in prison deserves to be there and I'm trying to explain that this isn't correct. Most inmates serving time for nonviolent drug crimes are black or brown, yet whites make up the majority of marijuana smokers when it comes to pure numbers. If everyone in prison deserves to be there then we would see equal rates of prisoners across all races and classes (since crime rates and drug rates occur evenly across all races/classes). The system is biased.dont smoke weed and you wont go to jail
exercise its better for you
theres more to life than smoking weed breh

I haven't even mentioned the number of innocent people in prison. The Innocence Project suggested that up to 5% of people in prison are actually innocent. Even if only 1% of prisoners were innocent, that would be over 20,000 people.
That's damn near half of the students at OSU, breh
Not for prisons
Free Market is not for prisons or emergency services IMO
Some cities privatize firemen, some pro free market ppl agree others dont'
I don't!
Socialism however privatizes all 3 branches of Govt. however
Remember that!
