Outside of the assault on guards I really don't have a problem with anything in that article. If it were up to me they would be living in even worst conditions and doing slave labor.
Independent reports continue to illuminate filthy, broken facilities, as well as much higher rates of crime and violence in and around the prison.

They're still people, breh. Human beings. A significant amount of inmates are serving time for nonviolent, victimless crimes that most Americans have committed at one point in their lives. They don't deserve to live in a shythole.

I kind of have the same view but only if it is applied to violent criminals. I know several dudes who have done time, and quite a few have said they had fun and they weren't ready to go when it was time to be released. Prison should be a place that invokes terrible memories and makes a person never want to go back.

:mjpls: What does a freemarket have to do with any of this..

this is corporatocracy..the only reason these corporations want to put people in cages is because theyre given money taken from taxpayers to do so

In a free world would you willingly pay for someone to be locked up ???

first of all ... we all know if the government takes control of the prison system..it will become a gulag and very inefficient...the best thing we should do is start privitizing all public services..such as the police department and the fire department

:comeon: Skipped right past my question huh?

Privatizing everything in this corporatist socialist enviroment would obviously be pure madness..but i hope youre not asserting that police and firefighting services cannot be provided by private companies

No ,no it shouldnt. Prison should be about rehabilitation. All your doing by making a prison like that is turning people into hardened monsters that walk out prison worse then they walked in. That isnt helping anybody. Prison shouldnt be a vacation, but it shouldnt be a place where people get worse. Not everyone going in some callous monster beyond help. Some are halfway decent people that never had guidance and made a few wrong choices. Prison takes those people and hardens them beyond help.

Prison should be about rehabilitation. .

And not about making a profit.

This isn't about being pro-socialism, it's about being pro-human rights, American rights according to the Constitution, and Not allowing corporate agendas to influence our criminal justice system.

Privatization and government lobbing + corporations = an unbalanced and agenda based criminal justice system.

Human beings are being used and exploited to increase an industry's profits. Lawmakers are influenced because we live in a Nation where you are elected based on donations, so you have close to 100K spaces available in the US for new inmates to enter the Private prison industry. Law makers have no incentive to correct the war on drugs, fix increase economic conditions in urban areas, or do anything else that will so the epidemic.

That's why I made a distinction between violent and non-violent criminals. If you commit a violent crime, you are a callous monster. The focus should not be on rehabilitation. It should be on punishment and keeping them segregated from society through much longer sentences. Most crimes are committed by repeat offenders, so rehabilitation is not working.
