Based on the teaser, the animations have a lot of room for improvement (the environments though :wow:) but I'm remaining optimistic because Shenmue 1 & 2 are personal GOAT games. A perfect game would be Sleeping Dogs-level gamplay with the Shenmue feel.

The yakuza series gameplay is and will be better than the gameplay of this game.
That's what I think as well. I don't see any evolution in the Shenmue series in terms of gameplay what so ever.
I think Shenumue 3 will release and flop commercially. Life long fans of the series may be able to overlook any dated aspects of the game, but everything I've seen so far looks like a game that is stuck in the dreamcast era of gaming still.
I want Shenmue 3 to be the incredible game everyone else wants it to be, but at this point, I'm not holding my breathe at all.

that would require a new engine top to bottom.. writers.. great animation.. everything. it'd have to be a AAA title for it to be all that. and this won't be that

hopefully this does moderately good and we get shenmue 4 with major backing. but you can't expect an updated, open world game, made for ps4 from a company with a kickstarter

What happened to all that Sony backing?

They probably gave them dudes a few bucks but nothing substantial

Dude said it would cost 10 million just to make it open world. Then more shyt they could do if they kept meeting bigger goals

In comparison, the original cost 47 million to make. Now you looking for the updated better version, it's gonna need that or ballpark at least

The kickstarter didn't even get 10. I highly doubt Sony came in there with 30-40 million for a project that wasn't even originally theirs. Like I said. Maybe after they see some good numbers. But not now

Either way I'm expecting Shenmue 3 to be a very niche game that will rely heavily on the nostalgia of the first 2 instead of bringing the game to modern times, and I don't mean just in graphics, or overall presentation. They need to do more with the formula. If the reason they fall short is money, then hopefully there are enough sales for there to be a fourth, that allows them to make some much needed changes to this game.
Don't get it confused, I'm 100% getting this game on day one. I'm just not losing my mind over it, and I'm going into it with low expectations.
Not to completely derail the thread, but I feel about Shenmue almost the same way I feel about Kingdom Hearts, in that, its been so long since the first one that unfortunately I've lost almost all interest in playing the last one.

This game will probably kill crowdfunding as we all know it :wow:

The backlash after this game releases will be glorious :banderas:

:heh:Sony is now backing them heavy, this ain't a no mans sky scenario either as they are not excatly over promising. The game will be piff and you will be here in 5 yrs on the PS5 saying how good it is.

If sony was really backing them why would they give them a press conference to announce the crowdfunding :sas1:

Why not back it themselves :sas2:
