Shaquille O'Neal could have easily mirrored Wilt Chamberlain's #s in that era

How are you gonna bring up championships when shaq had kobe and wade?

How you going to explain Wilt only winning 2 chips and getting traded twice in his prime?

Oh by bringing up the fact that Shaq had Kobe and Wade...LOL get this junior high school logic out of here :shaq2:

You said he only won two championships but teammates count. Did wilt have a kobe? No right? So why bring championships up?

I bring this up because its well known Wilt was not the most motivated guy out there when it came to winning. Routinely threw coaches and teammates under the bus for years. Finally found out that passing the ball and getting his teammates involved won basketball games. Well...duh Wilt you could have called up 11-time NBA Champion Bill Russell and he could have told you that. Dude was a freak athlete and changed the game to the point where they had to make rules for him. Thing is he didn't have that die-hard fortitude that Bill Russell and Kareem had to be great. Thus he only wins 2 championships, traded twice, and is historically hated by most if not all players from his era. The shyt speaks volumes...when you start looking @ what key guys in the league had to say about him and his game.

You can't average as many rebounds as Wilt and Russell did because the shooting was terrible back then. They also attempted more shots on average in this era than they do in Shaqs era and even today. More opportunities = more rebounds for these guys. Not taking anything away, but you have to wonder were these guys just that hungry on the boards or was there other forces at work. I tend to be on the side that there were other forces @ work along with dudes beasting on the boards.

Phil Jackson On Shaq vs. Wilt: "Shaquille Didn't Have the Same Athleticism"

"Shaquille didn't have quite the same athleticism that Wilt had,"Jackson said according to the L.A. Times. "He had the bounce and he had the speed, but he didn't have the endurance."
"Shaq was a post sprinter. He'd go and get in the lane," Jackson explained.

"Wilt was never much of a post sprinter. He used to take his time. When he rebounded, a lot of times he'd make the guards come back to him to get the ball - so he'd be down there when the ball got to the other end of the court."

O'Neal also had a signature shot where Chamberlain didn't.

"[O'Neal] had a jump hook whereas Wilt didn't have a jump hook, he had an array of shots, he had a hook, a finger roll and a turnaround jump shot," said Jackson.

But both players struggled at one thing.

"Free-throw shooting? [Issues] on both sides," Jackson added.

However, Wilt really was a freak:

Then why do we still bust fat loads to Wilt's #s.

You have no choice but to marvel at what Wilt did when you consider that they needed to change the rules to accommodate for his dominance.

Obviously the game and the league has evolved to the point where it would be impossible for any one player to ever post stats like that again but that doesn't change the fact that at one point in time there was a once guy averaging almost twice as many points as the league's 2nd top scorer.

Like how you use conditioning in an argument about Shaq
Shaq wasn't always out of Shape. He was one of the best athletes in his first 8 years in the league.

Its also well known that Bill Russell always had a much better team surrounding him. His team was filled with all-stars and hall of famers.

I wont call Shaq a disappointment or anything cause he's got 4 rings and his numbers can stack up with anyone's. But it's crazy that he never averaged 30 points or 15 rebounds in a season when that should have been the norm for him in his prime.

But he would've avg. 50 and 25 though? :shaq2:

Obviously we must take pace and rules and competition into account. Even at that pace nobody else was coming close to Wilt's 50 ppg. Jerry Stackhouse was out doing Shaq's career high ppg. :dead: Pace is only an advantage if your in shape. Shaq didn't take care of himself and there is no way he could have played 40 minutes a night at that pace let alone the 48 Wilt managed. Wilt played under the same rules as everyone else and put up numbers never seen before or since. Shaq played under the same rules as everyone else and put up numbers eclipsed by AI :heh:. Believe it or not Wilt actually had more comp at C. Shaq played against more stiffs after the turn of the century than Wilt ever did.

Lies he basically put up 30 & 13 four to five times in his career. To think those era players woulda contained him is foolish
