this.
Me and my old lady say the same shyt. WE got bread. Yall gotta earn it. And we show many ways to do so. Also teach them financial literacy and expose them to diff shyt.
With that being said, we show them and make them understand that we will support anything they show a passion for and make it happen to the best of our ability.
They will be left property and shyt like that as well when we pass too.
This is the same with me.
I understand perfectly what Shaq means.
I have two sayings for my kids.
1. You might want what it looks like, but can you deal with or overcome what it feels like.
2. Success only comes before work in the dictionary.
There is a significance in the lessons learned in the struggle and it is damn near impossible to replicate those for your kids. All you can do is try to make them as well adjusted as possible. Chances are, the best person for your business to succeed you is probably not your kid. The odds are against that being the case. I mean, look at sports.
LA Lakers: Dr. Buss built his empire from the ground up. Now with his offspring? The City of Los Angeles and the allure Dr. Buss built with the Lakers is what sells that team. If they were in San Diego, they'd be regional like the Padres are.
NY Yankees: Another franchise where the location and the history of the team sells itself.
To the failures.
Oakland-LA-LV Raiders
From Al Davis to Mark Davis. Al was a fukkin G, Mark Davis gets swallowed up by his father's shadow while being the only senior citizen I know with the chili bowl haircut.
NY Rangers & Knicks
Charles Dolan to James Dolan. To his credit, he's gotten out of the way lately. However, in 1993, he was in drug rehab. In 1999, he was officially running the Knicks/Rangers. That doesn't happen without nepotism
My god-awful Detroit Lions.
Henry Ford to the latest boob, Sheila Ford Hemp.
This is her bio
The Official Site of the Detroit Lions
She's never had a fukking job in her life and she's in her 60s.
Before her, it was her mother, Martha Firestone Ford. The scion of both Firestone and Ford cars. She never worked either!
All I'm saying is this. It's great to give your kids all the help they can receive, put life on easy mode for the kids but at some point in time, they still need to perform. No way in hell would I put my kids in charge of a business if they haven't shown the acumen and mental maturity to lead. You have people's lives in your hands when you are in charge of a company. It's not about just you. It's why I never knock CEOs and their pay, your decisions reverberate across a company and in some situations, around an industry. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and the crown should not be given on a whim. My footsteps are present for all my kids to see. However, their feet just might not be my size. If they aren't, blaze your own path. I'll assist, but you'll earn everything, nothing will be given.
