I agree with the notion it took kobe a few years before he took off, he would of course go on to work himself into a top 10 player of all time. Can't debate that

But penny Hardaway was a special talent that really didn't need a development period. Out the gate he was a special talent. Court vision comparable to magic. Elite ball handling skills and could score inside and from mid range. Early on he was giving dudes buckets and running the Orlando magic offense at an elite level. He was a major reason him and Shaq took down Jordan went through the pacers and got to the finals so early in their years together. That dude was special.
Baseball was the main reason Penny n Shaq got past MJ in 1995. We saw what happened in 1996 when Mike was back fully. Broomstick

:why:

Penny was 1st-team All-NBA and a playoff monster by his 2nd and 3rd years, then got his first injury during the playoffs his 3rd year. Which "hump" was he failing to get over?
The "What could he have been if he ever made it into his prime hump". What you seeb was just a young guy insertimg himself into the league and getting his bearings. He was probably only 70% of the player he could have been

Penny entered the league when he was 22 not 18. When Kobe was 22 he was already a star. So to say Penny didn’t need a development period is misleading if Kobe played 4 years of college he would’ve been balling out the gate too. And even then Kobe was scoring 20+ in playoff games as a rookie and giving it to MJ his 2nd year at 19yrs old

You are copping pleas for a man that Jerry West, of all people, thought was worthy of being a first round pick.
He bypassed the college star players to draft a kid out of high school. Speaks to the highly developed skills and game that he had as a 17 year old.

Translating / adapting those skills to the NBA is a transition for everybody. Penny had to learn , the same way Kobe did, and a more difficult position too.
