Thank you for making Shakur Stevenson's point![]()
RightYeah. Leonard, especially at 147, was primarily more of a flat flooted boxer who circled the ring and looked to open up with combos. He’s one of the best finishers ever.
The Duran rematch (and dreadful 3rd fight) and Hagler fight might make people think the dancing was his usual style, but it wasn’t.
Yup. Plus there is a huge difference between keeping distance and flat out running. It's one thing to fight at a distance and piece your opponent up as he comes in and then dancing back out of range to repeat the process. It's another that everytime the opponent comes inside you just dance out of the way without making him pay.Right
You can't be a "runner" if you are knocking opponents out.
SRL and Ali were laying guys out.
Shakur does thisnobody criticizes slick guys who go in for the kill when they get their opponent hurt.
then let me add more context to it. nobody criticizes slick fighters who consistently seek to hurt the opponent, and then when having done so, go in for the kill. shakur spends far more time trying to not get hit than trying to hurt his opponents. he has had a few fights where he performed better offensively, but that has not been the norm. he has been mostly content to box inferior opposition to decisions.Shakur does this
He KOd Herring and knocked down Valdez. That’s arguably the two biggest names he’s fought.
What about other fights?I just saw the hagler fight yesterday actually. Leonard ABSOLUTELY ran. He ran for 7 rounds straight until he tired out. The worst part was he would clinch if anything happened. There was 10 clinches a round. He'd hit hagler after the bell was rung. He hit hagler with low blows. Hagler was trash though and Leonard whipped his ass.
