I'm not super into the remakes, but if they're going to do it - they should make the shyt like a legit Black James Bond. shyt - at least write the arc for a trilogy straight off the bat. You don't get to 24 films deep in a series without having a plan (or a series of books to base it on - as far as I know there's only one Shaft novel)

That way we won't have to hear any more 'There should be a Black Bond' arguments. I'd like to see it happen too - but I can see White people giving up their world travelling, xenophobia uttering, gadget wielding, Martini sipping, unprotected sex having hero around the same time snow is forecast in Hell.

Breh you're giving the Bond producers way more credit. Love the movies but "plan" wasn't something in the cards. There have been movies they wanted to do but couldn't and had to change schedules around..they've at times not been on the same page with the direction of the series or the direction of the character, they've also at times been very reactionary to whatever is hot at the time i.e., Man with the Golden Gun (Bruce Lee) Moonraker (star wars), etc. I definitely feel you on the fact that the books helped guide them but even then they often went off the rails when it came to those books and in some cases, used nothing but the title from a book and scrapped the plot.

I think with what shaft represents it's a perfect vehicle to highlight current social/society issues pertaining to the AA experience. To handle this appropriately it needs to be somewhat grounded in an everyday setting and with the right tone. A shaft movie in the tone of bond would be "style over substance" "action over story". I could see a white or Jew exec proposing this to silence the question and fatten their pockets but you shouldnt

If they base it off of the great new Shaft comic book that is basically an origin story for John Shaft then it could be cool. it has to be set in the late 1960s-early 1970s though. A modern Shaft would be a bad idea.
Thats the only way I will rock with this..

But then again the original 1971 joint cannot be touched though..

It will pale in comparison..

The scene when Shaft rolls up in the No Name bar in the village with Issac Hayes "Do your Thing" playin cannot be replicated :ohlawd:

That point and time in NY in that early 1970s era is hard to reproduce.

You ain't know??

Thats how Hollywood is, B..

There only a certain amount of slots available for black actors :russ:
Lol remember in the 2000s every black movie had at least 1 of these actors

Morris Chestnut
Taye Diggs
Sanaa Lathan
Vivica A Fox
Omar Epps
Terrence Howard
etc

The point of mistakes in the past is that you can learn frorm them. :yeshrug:

You're assuming when I mention Bond that I'm talking about jet setting around the world and corny puns. I'm not. I'm talking about Bond as a semi cohesive series of films.

If they're going to reboot it for the second time - why not at the very least not try to make it a trilogy? It's not like Black actors in Hollywood couldn't use consistent roles.

Hmm I dunno it all depends who the get for the director and who's casted as Shaft before I can comment. That said huge misstep not making a sequel to the Samuel L Jackson flick shyt was dope.

the funny thing is sam jackson ain't that much younger than richard roundtree. (6 years)
