Totally unnecessary, if Sam jacks version couldn't bring anything to the table in a time popular culture had a heavy African American presence I shutter to think what a shift film in this era would look like. We shouldn't even be hearing the likes of Mackie for consideration. If he is itll lead me to believe this new shaft might be shining shoes and need white assistance. This whole thing sounds like :duck: oleyowo is a great actor but shaft can't be 5'5 or have a diminutive physique. The easy answer is go with an unknown or Idris, hell Luther was a British shaft anyway

Yeah it always confused me as to why they didn't make a sequel to that. clearly it's too late now. Ava Duverney would be a great pick to direct it
she doesn't need to be the go to director for all things black just because she directed selma. Why can't she direct the new Spider-Man movie?

The first came out when i was still a young'n...i just remember loving that movie, and still do to this day.

There wasn't a sequel or anything. Was it considered a failure?

She'd be a great pick for the new spider man movie. I'm thinking her in terms of being tapped into the current social issues within our community and being able to tap into that. But shyt I'd love for her to direct the new spider man flick.

The dualities if they would cast MJW. :banderas:
But Michael jai White doesn't have that charisma or acting ability. I love Black Dynamite, but that's a different type of character than Shaft; I just finished watching some of MJW's earlier stuff when he was in Troma movies and dude is literally the same actor from back then

If they base it off of the great new Shaft comic book that is basically an origin story for John Shaft then it could be cool. it has to be set in the late 1960s-early 1970s though. A modern Shaft would be a bad idea.
while I agree isnt that basically covering old ground, literally

I'm not super into the remakes, but if they're going to do it - they should make the shyt like a legit Black James Bond. shyt - at least write the arc for a trilogy straight off the bat. You don't get to 24 films deep in a series without having a plan (or a series of books to base it on - as far as I know there's only one Shaft novel)

That way we won't have to hear any more 'There should be a Black Bond' arguments. I'd like to see it happen too - but I can see White people giving up their world travelling, xenophobia uttering, gadget wielding, Martini sipping, unprotected sex having hero around the same time snow is forecast in Hell.

Nah the comic is actually fleshing Shaft out. It is covering his boxing career and his life when he first returned from the war. It is showing everything that led to him becoming the John Shaft we are all familiar with.
