I was concerned that the writers strike, delays, and alleged conflict between the showrunners could fukk this up. Sounds like they nailed it.
Only other concern I had was the typical trap a lot of second seasons fall into when it comes to shows like this: instead of advancing the plot further or answering questions, the show starts to focus on world building and piles more questions on top of the ones that are still lingering from the first season. Hope that's not the case here.
