serious question: when and where did house music stop being cool amongst black Americans?

'House' music didn't stop being cool among Black people. The demopgraphic for it changed due to hip-hop in the late 80's.

I'm also from Jersey and I can tell you that most of the clubs around my immediate vicinity stopped playing a lot of hip-hop music due to the violent altercations associated with the crowds that frequented those clubs.

They switched to more 'house' style music and drew in more laid-back people and homosexuals.

Hip-hop artists didn't want to be left in the cold, so, 'Hip-House' was born.......and died.........

House music is cool, but it sounds the same after a while to me :manny: I roller skate and house is becoming the music of choice at most events and it bores me after several minutes of it.

You mean Martha Wash............:sas2:

God Damn euro cacs were always doing that shyt. From milli vanilli, c and c music factory, black box, and even ya kid k to an extent.

They wanted that strong gospel voice to lay the vocals on the dance track but wanted a slim black model type to appear to their white washed/gay audience.

They might've gone with a white singer if the voices weren't so... How do you say... Ethnic

:sas1:

Of course they had no problem with rick astley's ginger ass being all up in the video.

:sas2:

Lowkey that's probably part of the answer @Sagat is searching for.

Man this shyt goes!

Say breh you said Detroit? As in Cartier glasses hood brehs??

I'm just asking because I'm about to pull up in lil Haiti in a few but since you said Detroit brehs rock with this I'm guessing I'm good. Don't have me looking like a fool and ppl calling me a faggit because ima come looking for you breh.

Yeah, literal hood nikkas was jittin to this shyt. Not to mention the chicks and the hip roll battles :wow: But shyt like this was EVERYWHERE in the D in the late 90's you couldn't even think of throwing a decent party and not have some ghetto tech elements.

The whole juke/jit regional thing is crazy
Both 160bpm
But chi doesnt fukk with jit
And detroit doesnt fukk with juke.

The name jit comes from the clubs in Detroit
They would have signs on the clubs back in the day that said "no jits allowed".
Basically meant "no hood nikkas".
And jit is pretty much sped up techno mixed with ghetto house.

Its insane. And I was a teen at the time and If you went to any venue and started a Jit it was grounds to get tossed out if it wasn't a known "dance" club.
Juke is wilder and Jit is more contained. Jit is also easier to coreography because you can Jit and never move laterally. Some of the best jitters I ever seen was big dudes with iLL feet.

Chicago and Detroit are culture cousins, literally.
Some of the battles between the two are :blessed:

On this one almost a decade ago, the first group are Jukers then when the group changes its Jit. Mind you this is at St. Andrews back when it was legit a hood spot and the only thing there were Rap Battles and Dance Battles.

THey were giggin to a sped up version of Cosmic Raindance.

this is true but it holds true for most genres of music which is why you can easily group genres based on a a specific sound but I think House has many grooves/feels

(house/techno hyrbid)

So much corny shyt.
Personally I think house and just about all all electronic/techno type music sounds best when it's presented in the form of a long mix, preferably controlled by an expert DJ. Same with go-go actually. It takes time for that groove to really develop, almost like cooking a big pot of stew, you need to let it marinate

For those reasons it just doesn't sound as good when they play a house track on the radio then switch back to some pop shyt, then to a rap track, etc

Basically house requires a longer attention span than other forms of popular music and most people lack the patience to appreciate it

That's because House has a very specific formula due to that it was birthed from disco...

Four on Four and all that shyt...

But there are all types of House music...

I think the most of the House that Black people know of is Chicago House, Hip House and Ghetto House...
