There's genetic differences so physically no women can't really compete....however, the modifier is really redundant. Serena is one of the best athletes alive...period. So is Carli Lloyd and Marta, so is Kerry-Anne Frasier-Pryce, so is Simone Biles.

They are some of the best athletes of earth PERIOD the only time the modifier needs to come into play is during competitions.

But here's the thing - she is respected for being "elite".

What she's saying here is that she doesn't believe that's enough. Oh well.
Respected but always had to go through more..like McEnroe not giving her credit for a long time on commentary.

Thewilliams sisters were already household names. Venus was ranked #20. And got beat right after her sister. Like literally with no breaks between matches.

Its crazy how you make these claims like she would do better in 2016, then when I say I genuinely would like to see if she would, its "what kinda man calls out women"

full

I like my accolades, titles, and bragging backed by competition, facts and numbers, not feelings and thoughts.

I don't make claims. Serena is elite..who are these nobodies you're speaking of and who is she denouncing? You're just a kid who needs comedy gifs instead of making a lick of sense. She called no one out but pointed out how LeBron is not labeled male athlete. That is factual...so don't play y9urself...you've already lost credibility speaking about some 98 shyt when she was 16 instead of speaking when she was great. Jordan's fist two years? He wasn't shyt compared to Wilt Chamberlin all time.

20th in the world...lol. as if she was Steffi status...haha. I'm dealing with hicks around this place..Day after day. Ridiculous.

Dog, I don't even know who any of those people are except for Simone biles, and that's because I spend too much time on this site. And the only reason she's talked about on here is because she apparently likes white boys. :yeshrug:

I'd be hard pressed to find anyone other than feminist ESPN anchors who would have them on their list of greatest athletes.

Here's some more fun facts about women vs men. The 100m dash world record time for men is only about a second higher than women. According to most Flo Jo's 10.49 will never be broken, but....

10.49 seconds, 1988

In the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Griffith Joyner finished second in the 200meters. In 1988, she won both the 100m and 200m sprints, smashing the 200m record twice in Seoul. But it was in the U.S. trials in Indianapolis in July that Griffith-Joyner, whose long, colored nails were almost as famous as she was, blitzed the world record with 10.49 seconds. Having quit the sport in 1989 just as random out-of-competition drug testing was announced, she died suddenly, from an epileptic seizure in her sleep, at the age of 38 in 1998.

The #203 ranked man beat the #20th ranked woman and her sister back to back. Idk how else to frame that.

You talking about wilt Chamberlain? One of the best of all time, and even then the comparison would be more apt if 1984 wilt dogged Clyde drexler and Jordan on the same day back to back only taking a break to put another notch on his belt in the locker room and smoke a joint.

This is more like bill laimbeer schooled rookie drexler and UNC senior Jordan back to back.

And like I said we could call lebron one of the best male athletes but its redundant. He's the top of his sport (basketball) and has proven it against the top competition in the us and abroad. If Britney griner dropped 20 on the Cleveland cavaliers I'd drop the female qualifier and crown her one of the best athletes period.

The WNBA is only elite competition to other women, Adam Morrison could pull a juwanna man tomorrow and be girl Jordan

I don't blame you for not knowing..its not like traditional media highlights women's sports. But to say women who run track and dominated (i.e. the Jamaicans) or played soccer and dominated (i.e. the American) are not among the greatest athletes, that's silly.

Breh, Abby Wambach (soccer) has more international goals than anyone on earth male or female. More than Pele, more than Ronaldo, More than Messi more than Raul, Puskas...any of them...To not call her one of the best players to ever live is INSANITY.

Context matters. You don't just put a 68 Mustang up against a '13 458 Italia and then say the Mustang isn't one of the greatest cars ever. You compare it to the other cars (or in this case women) of the same era.

We do it all the time when it comes to players of the past. Kareem, Hakeem, Ken Griffey Jr., Hank Aaron, Tim Brown etc. All of them some of the greatest of all time and yet when compared to some of the players now, their feats don't really seem all that amazing. But the CONTEXT of time/place lets us give them accolades.

Again, I'm not saying I totally agree. I'm just saying that I understand the nuance.

women gotta stop this bs. There's nothing wrong with being a woman. Stop always comparing yourself to men :scust:

That's feminism for you. They don't like men and don't want to be around men but they still want to be around and compare themselves men at the same time.

Hhose women only compete against other women tho. Saying that yheyre some of the best athletes alive is a pretty vague statement. Saying that they're amongst the best female athletes in the world is much more accurate.

Again, that context is still important. Either do how the espys does and make the distinction on both sides (male/female) or make no distinction at all. When I talk about the best athletes alive or of all time out of ALL HUMANS. There's no way I'm not including Serena. Period.

Serena doesn't compete against the best humans tho. She only competes against other women. If you are honest about where she ranks amongst all tennis players ever, then you'd have to admit that she's not one of the best ever when including male tennis players. She couldn't even compete against the best men's tennis players. You may not like it and it may hurt your feelings, but it's the truth.

I understand where she's coming from, but the way we use "Best Athlete" breaks gender lines. You can only be the best if you're better than all of your pairs regardless of race, age(To an extent) and gender.
This is correct

We are socialized to marginalized women to be seperate and unequal.

While in my personal belief is that the males will typically be better in anything physical

It is still a sociological statement that society still separates all women's sports from men's sports and give them much less coverage. But there's a reason

I actually agree with you but you still used qualifiers. "The greatest athlete of his era" is not the same as "the greatest athlete of all time".

My point is we have to stop trying to act like there's something wrong with not being compared to men. Forcing the issue hurts everyone involved. Men being men, if you call yourself something you have to prove it.

If I call myself the best chef in the world and bobby flay challenges me to a throw down and I'm like :whoa: "but but he's a professional." I can no longer call myself the best in the world. The best amateur chef maybe, but not THE best
