Wtf are you even talking about. Serena is without a doubt the greatest female tennis player of all time. And there's nothing wrong with that. But to quote @Nature Boy Ric Flair "to be the man you gotta beat the man" and until she beats roger federer or Rafael nadal she can't be the best. I wish there were more black tennis players but we don't rock with tennis like that for various socioeconomic reasons

Her dumbass is gonna detour right around this post.

You'd probably have a point if the thread starter(Me) was that type of poster, but if you ask any poster on here, I do not bash nor talk down on Black women. This thread is about how people classify athletes and their accomplishments.

I was really talking about the person who ran in with the article diminishing her and the people cosigning.

What are you talking about? All she was talking about is labels and what she'd like to be called. Word for word here is the quote from the original post:

But as we know, too often women are not supported enough or are discouraged from choosing their path. I hope together we can change that. For me, it was a question of resilience. What others marked as flaws or disadvantages about myself – my race, my gender – I embraced as fuel for my success. I never let anything or anyone define me or my potential. I controlled my future.

One of those barriers is the way we are constantly reminded we are not men, as if it is a flaw. People call me one of the “world’s greatest female athletes”. Do they say LeBron is one of the world’s best male athletes? Is Tiger? Federer? Why not? They are certainly not female. We should never let this go unchallenged. We should always be judged by our achievements, not by our gender.

For everything I’ve achieved in my life, I am profoundly grateful to have experienced the highs and lows that come with success. It is my hope that my story, and yours, will inspire all young women out there to push for greatness and follow their dreams with steadfast resilience. We must continue to dream big, and in doing so, we empower the next generation of women to be just as bold in their pursuits.

She never compared herself to LeBron physically. She never compared herself to anyone. She said one of the greatest. She is talking about what she wants to be called. Is she one of the greatest athletes of all time or not? What about her a title offended your senses so, that you needed to post the articles you did to diminish and "un-gas" her and all women?

She is one of the greatest. One of the greatest FEMALES. If she wants to go on a tour of male players and start knocking off top men then I'll call her one of the greatest period. But if she not bout that life I can't call her one of the greatest period.

It's like if lebron was considered the best player in america and played international ball and got worked by some player from Spain I would call him the greatest American ball player, he would be disqualified from being the best in the world

She is one of the greatest period. There is a small amount of professional athletes in the world across sports, and Serena would beat most of them at tennis, including LeBron, who is not trained in the sport. She would lose to some maybe even most male tennis athletes, although I question this would be the case at her peak (which was not 16-18). But she would beat most all other athletes at her sport male or female. That means she is one of the greatest athletes and she is where she is for a reason.

And still, the racial solidarity stuff is as fake as a 2 dollar bill. A Black person's accomplishments got thrown under the bus real quick for you to align with your gender across race. Don't think it has gone unnoticed that you've failed to address that in full. Not going to keep going back and forth either. Enjoy your night and the daps you'll keep getting for diminishing her.

I guarantee you with a few years of training Bron would dust serena off in tennis. That nikka serve would be bout 150 mph.

Sports is one of the last bastions of competition where race doesn't matter. That's why we dominate. Pointing out reality doesn't diminish Serena's accomplishments. You're being straight delusional and trying to play on nikkas inferiority complex when it comes to white folks to prove your point. Stop it

I think even Candace Parker (WNBA champion) said herself that women can't compete with men. It's true. I'd like to see Serena face off against some 300th ranked male tennis player and watch what happens. Serena took an L this year to some 24 year old Czech Cac :francis:

The problem with her position is that she competes among gender lines yet she doesn't want her gender to be acknowdged in how she's judged. That's makes no sense as is an obvious contradiction. How can you put her achievements in their proper perspective without acknowledging that she's a woman? If she doesn't want to be seen as a women's tennis player then she needs to stop competing on the women's tennis tour. She has to be judged along gender lines because she's a woman who only competes against other women. Her quote makes absolutely no sense and epitomizes how nonsensical feminism is.

You also epitomize why feminism is nonsensical with the way you ran in here and hijacked the thread trying to fan the flames of some gender war. Acknowledging that Serena is a woman and women don't compete with men physically doesn't diminish her in any way.

What's unpleasant about men being stronger than women? I don't care about sports lmao

I will continue to point out hypocrisy though. On a board where Black women get railed against all day long for not supporting rapists in the name of racial solidarity, I find it hilarious Black men ran in here to diminish a great Black woman athlete with no regard to the same racial solidarity they expect on their own behalf.
when women go way off the rails like this, they've already lost the debate. as burr said, take a knee and run out the clock.

The best male anything is by default the best. No Need for qualifiers. Smh women really let the media gas them

We Are Tennis - We Are Tennis : Mag - Karsten Braasch: the smoker who ridiculed the Williams sisters

January 1998, the Williams sisters haven't even imposed themselves fully on women's tennis and yet they were already thinking of competing with the boys. An eccentric German, near to retirement, was very happy to prove them wrong on a court in Melbourne.
“I really think that male and female tennis are very different. Men are just tougher than women. It's like comparing apples and oranges.” In July 2010, Serena Williams put an end to the war of the sexes. The most successful player of the past 20 years even admitted that she “would never stand a chance against a man ranked inside the Top 100”. The American hasn't always seen it this way. When she arrived on the WTA Tour in the late 90s alongside her sister Venus, with her braces and the pearls in her hair, she claimed loud and clear that she was able to beat “any guy in the Top 200.” A man took care of putting the two girls to rights.
A CIGARETTE AT THE CHANGE OF SIDE
Without his double confrontation against the Williams sisters, history would have remembered Karsten Braasch best for his unlikely service, decomposed to the point of caricature, rather than for his best ranking: a 38th place achieved in June 1994. Four years later, at the Australian Open, the German shaved off his trademark moustache and was coming towards the end of his career in perfect anonymity. Braasch was then 31 years old and still smoked a pack of cigarettes per day (which may explain why he hasn't won a five-set match in his life). Already eliminated from both the singles and doubles at the Grand Slam, he was hanging around the office of the ATP when the two Williams sisters asked whether a boy in the Top 200 was available for them to prove what they had been saying for a while. Braasch took on the challenge. After all, he was ranked 203rd in the world. Scheduled on the first Sunday of the Australian Open, the match was postponed due to rain. On the Monday, Serena (who lost against her elder sibling in the 2nd round) was the first to enter court 17 of Melbourne Park. Her opponent was prepared to meet her his way: “I've just had a few cocktails and a round of golf.” Confident, Braasch began with an additional handicap: he only allowed himself one serve. Despite this, the German gave a tennis lesson to the 16 year-old, claiming a one-sided 6-1 victory. Accustomed to fast passing, Serena didn't understand the anachronistic tennis of her opponent. How to return his chopped forehands? How to overpower him? She was unable to find a solution. “It was very hard, I didn’t think it would be so hard,” she sighed after the game. “I hit shots which would have been winners on the WTA Tour, but he caught them easily”. So easily that Braasch lit a cigarette during a change of side.
" I PLAYED LIKE A GUY RANKED 600TH"
Venus then arrived to avenge her kin. At the time, the eldest of the family was established inside the WTA top 20 and seemed better prepared to resist. However, the result would be almost identical - a 6-2 defeat. According to witnesses of these two matches, Braasch almost seemed to hold his punches. The applicant confirmed, with a mocking laugh: “I don't think that they can ever beat a player in the top 500, because today I played like a guy ranked 600th”.Nevertheless, the executioner recognized qualities in both of his unfortunate opponents. “Both played very well and hit the ball really well” he said a few years later to the Guardian. “In the end, it was me who won, but neither they nor I really took this game seriously. It was just a good laugh”. After digesting these defeats, the Williams sisters announced that they were now looking to play against another player, but this time ranked above 350th. With a lot of humour, Braasch asked them to wait a bit, “I told Serena and Venus that the following week, I would lose ATP points from a tournament from the previous season and that I should then not be too far from the 350th place.” However, the revenge match would never happen. The William sisters chose to impose their will among the girls and Karsten Braasch to play golf between puffs. By Alexandre Pedro

Sports, unlike arts or whatever, have a gender distinction for a reason : physically, we are just not the same, despite what some feminists would like to believe. With similar training, women and men can be at the same skill level in any sport, but -again, with the similar training- a man will be more physically powerful than a woman.

That's why once again the comparison with race is forced. Because a Black man and a White man are in the same sports category : men. Segregation/differentiation based on race in sports was purely ideological, and that's why it eventually was thrown in the bushes, because it made no sense. On the other hand, differentiation based on gender is there for a reason, because the vast majority of sports rely on physicality, and thus are dominated by men.

I personally have no issue saying the phrase "Serena is one of the top athletes of the world", because she is, when you consider all the lower-level tennismen she would probably destroy today. And tbh I wouldn't have any issue saying the phrase "Lebron is one of the top male athletes of the world", because he is, since he competes in male competitions. The accepted distinction of adding "female" before "athlete" for Serena comes from the probability that she would probably not compete at such a high level against tennismen of similar level. But do we know for sure? No, so the only way to settle this would be fro women and men to compete in a real tennis tournament (not some friendly, not some "we are all the same" gala, but a real actual competition) under the same exact rules and in the same exact conditions and see who performs how.
