But I think people in government sometimes forget their decisions have literal life and death consequences. It's easy to send bombs across the sea from your office in Washington and kill 100 brown people or to take away that one guy's health insurance who lives on welfare in some public housing in the middle of no where. But Inequality and oppression will lead to a reaction and the scariest people are those with nothing to lose.

But I think people in government sometimes forget their decisions have literal life and death decisions. It's easy to send bombs across the sea from your office in Washington and kill 100 brown people or to take away that one guy's health insurance who lives on welfare in some public housing in the middle of no where. But Inequality and oppression will lead to a reaction and the scariest people are those with nothing to lose.

I'm just feeling it today and having a bit of stream of consciousness right now. But it's related.
I'm annoyed with how much people rely on their position in political roles in government. This is the root of the issue with Republicans actions related to healthcare. Yeah it's dead now but it's sad in a way because there are issues with ACA that need to be fixed. Instead of fixing the problem to the benefit of everyone, it's about maintaining power by racking up "points". Even when McConnel talked about the failure of HIS party inability to get this done he cited the most partisan of tropes such as " Saving Americans from Obamacare". Not lamenting the fact that they are unable to control premium increases for example.
We're at the point where they would rather let the whole thing burn through neglect and removal of funding instead of making a working system and god forbid work with democrats.
There was a documentary I remember watching about abortion in Madagascar if I remember correctly. A lot of people are christians but they had the debate of legalizing abortion due to a health crisis of so many women having issue with birth. I can't remember the details of why.
But the one thing that always stuck with me related to that story is a quote from a politician there who voted to legalize abortion. She said that she did not care that she will lose her seat because she was elected to serve the best interest of the people. She did not view it as a career but a service. She was ok with leaving office and going back to a private life of having a normal career
