Sega, IO Interactive, Bungie & more were acquisition targets for Microsoft in 2021 (emails leaked claiming to ‘spend’ Sony out of business)

isn’t it funny how Microsoft keep reiterating that they are buying ABK mostly to expand mobile yet all their internal emails and documentation mostly mention Sony?

Almost nothing about Amazon or Google either :sas2:
Those emails are from before the activision thing even existed. And they literally mention all those companies in the very email you just posted.

Play dumb for #shambles daps from @Alan Johnson brehs :mjlol:

Ah yes…the emails about wanting to spend their competition out of business existed mere months before they bought one of the largest 3rd party publishers and a year later the largest 3rd party publisher. Not relevant at all :wow:

“go spend Sony out of business…”

There it is: merger should be killed immediately.
Before that email I wasn't seeing anything Sony had that was going to sway much, with that I think any possibility of getting it approved is dead

That shows monopolistic practice in plain text. You can say Sony planned for the same with their deals etc but you don't any proof Sony is specifically trying to put MS out of business

Not only is this merger dead imo, acquisitions MS tries to make going forward are going to be potentially flagged. MS has got to be pissed that got out

“When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a ton of respect for them, but we see Amazon and Google as the main competitors going forward,” says Spencer. “That’s not to disrespect Nintendo and Sony, but the traditional gaming companies are somewhat out of position."

Now reading this...

Its saying the same thing.

Going forward they are worried about the big dogs locking up content and he even mentions sony in a matter of fact kind of way. He then mentions that Sony is the only one that can really compete with Gamepass service and they already are ahead of them. But they are worried about all the other big dogs locking up content and IP's and them being iced out on the IP side.

Like he said they COULD spend sony out of business, this is in 2019. And yet you haven't seen anything remotely close to this, if that was the goal they would just do that. But it's dumb and costly when they have a golden goose with gamepass and Phil doesn't believe in that method or think its healthy or necessary for gaming as a whole.

You specifically said that email discredits their reasoning for why they purchased Activision.

The activision purchase wasn’t even on their radar at that point. They are talking about $6 and $7b purchases.

They even set up a nice easy to read table for you detailing their targets and why. Some were for mobile. Some were to sell consoles, some where to promote gamepass.

The regulators and judges have this email and don’t view it as significant at all to the Activision purchase.

They also have internal emails and analysis from microsoft detailing the purchase of Activision, and they NEVER even ran an analysis of taking COD off playstion.

Tom Warren ain’t gonna share that stuff tho, wouldn’t be spicy enough to make y’all’s #shambles flair up :mjlol:

Regulators and judges have had this email since forever and it is of no significance to them.

The judge presiding over the case has already thrown out the “gamers lawsuit” case that hinged on this exact email.

This is just bad games journalism whipping you stan’s up into a frenzy again :mjlol:

Over the course of all internal documention leaks. Pay attention

They are laser focused on Sony, their ‘not-competition’
because those are documents the FTC cherry picked to use in the injunction hearing last week

Microsoft in public: "We see Amazon and Google as the main competitors going forward,"
Microsoft internally: "Google and Amazon are incapable to make a game"

Microsoft in public "Let us have competition"
Microsoft internally: "we are able to go spend Sony out of business."
