1. You don’t have to peel shrimp to devein it
2. I know you don’t peel the shrimp before boiling
3. I have zero issues with deveining my own shrimp

I just don’t want to offend my host.
If you are going to crack the shell in anyway you may as well peel it. Shrimp for a boil should be fully intact preferably with the head on as well. I doubt anybody would be offended if you cleaned your own shrimp before eating. They'd likely just laugh at you honestly.

The only time you devein shrimp in dishes like Etouffe, Gumbo, Jambalaya and so forth.

No one ever deveined shrimp in a boil, this is why folk in Louisiana don't like outsiders and especially the reason why New Orleans folk can be xenophobic...they be doing too much.

shyt I tell Louisiana folk all the time to geaux to Baltimore for seafood cause they the only ones I know that get down with eating seafood like how we do. But they love crabs too much and got shytty seafood dishes.

So you don’t have to crack the shell to devein shrimp you can pull the vein out from the neck leaving the whole shrimp in tact but that’s only when raw.

This is probably the answer was looking for.

I love sucking the head of the mud bugs.. shyt is so flavorful and sometimes you can get the mush
So look up Aliguea it’s a crab fat paste that you can buy in a jar, it’s made from the mustard (never heard it called that but makes sense). Very good for adding to dishes for a rich seafood flavour. It’s a phillipino thing but you may like it, try your local Asian grocery store.

You can add it into pasta, maybe with some claw meat and if you’re feeling extra deep fry a soft shell crab and put on top with a lil caviar maybe. When I make it I’ll post a pic on here.

I devein shrimp if they are boiled well and not mushy. If the boil is fukked up and they are hard to peel and mushy its too much work to devein, I'll just eat it.

but crawfish I dont bother....
