Well the first thing you have to remember is that Punk always believed he was one of the best overall wrestlers in the company but felt he was looked down upon.

From there he got start and stop pushes for the 5 years leading up. Eventually he was able to build himself up as one of the premier heels in the company but felt he still got overlooked. To make matters worse, The Miz main evented WrestleMania that year over him which pissed him off to no end because he felt he was the best bad guy in the business.

By the time June 2011 came he was fed up and wanted out. According to Punk, on the night of the Pipebomb, a writer told him "they're going to give you a microphone and they want you to air your grievances." He also told his friends that WWE said he could say whatever he wants.

So to answer your question, it wasn't scripted but Punk went a bit too far by talking about Vince and the anti-bully campaign. Once he hit that nerve they cut his mic off.

Funnily enough he wrestled for WWE for about two more years before leaving.
:comeon: it wasn't scripted but yes man John Laurinaitis conveniently became a regular on TV?

What about his idiotic daughter and his doofus son in law, the just coincidentally happened to take over?

They react like that all the time
Mike Adamle was not fit to be a main character and he botched his first promo terribly and they decided he had to be the general manager after that

That's the story from Punk's mouth. I rewatched the segment on his DVD on the Network about it after writing my post just to make sure my facts were straight.

Dirt sheets said it was a work and everything after proved it was.

Mentions John Laurinaitis as yes man, John Laurinaitis becomes series regular. Mentions company being taken over by doofus son in law and idiotic daughter. Vince loses company, doofus son in law takes over. Mentions Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar, Heyman and Brock return.

Believe that's reaction if you want.:manny:

Nah you had to watch everything from the pipe bomb to the MITB match, it was really well done and worth watching

It is amazing how horribly booked punk was after he won the strap, you couldn't have booked him any worse if you tried, easily one of the worst booking decisions I can ever remember. From having him come back way too soon, throwing him in a fued with Nash, to the most egregious booking decision in company history by having HHH go over cleanly. The hottest wrestler on the planet loses to a part timer, no one was going to give a shyt about punk getting his win back 9 months later, that killed so much of his momentum. Of all the unforgivable burials HHH has done, that was easily the worst. At least the argument could be made that in the past HHH was a full time wrestler, by this time he was part time, it still pisses me off thinking about it. The pipe bomb and the MITB match got me back into wrestling and the way they completely dropped the ball afterwards made me leave again. Actually I don't think I've watched full time since then.
I'm a fan of Punk's work, so maybe I'm biased, but that was easily one of the best runs in recent wrestling history.

No it was one of the best runs in recent history, the MITB Ppv was one of the best in years. The more I think the more I feel the booking after the PPV is easily the worst booking and decision making in company history

I still don't think so. Punk's quote to Triple H before walking out in 2014 was still applicable back in 2011.

"I don't need to wrestle you. YOU need to wrestle ME."

Of course me saying that is based on what happens after the fact. The “okay then what” is always important. So if punk beats him and you get rid of that authority thing then yeah it’s a big deal. But punk is still right

:francis: shyt still bothers me. Dude was the hottest wrestler on the planet and getting them legitimate mainstream coverage. They were talking about him on sports radio and and other outlets because no one was sure if it was real or not and people fukked with what he was saying. He made the shyt exciting again with that one promo and then beating Cena at money in the bank and then bouncing. Then they fukked it all up. That booking decision is a microcosm of every booking decision they've made in the past 7 years. Because something caught fire and didn't go according to their plan, they were hesitant about it and didn't want to commit fully to it and it ended up hurting them more than helping. Punk went from being the man on the card to being just another top guy on the card.

There's no reason on the planet he should've lost to Triple H or should've dealt with Nash. In my mind, they've never fully recovered from that decision from a booking standpoint

Pretty sure he mentioned this on air too. Said something along the lines of he’s getting them the attention Vince craves and only gets when there’s a steroid scandal or when somebody dies.

If punk goes over, then it makes sense and works since there’s room to build towards a face vs heel boss figure angle that actually has reason to exist, but even more egregious was them taking the belt off him at summerslam, having him lose the #1 contenders match, losing the triple threat at hell in a cell, and eating the pin in the tag match vs miz and truth. At the same time they manage to make ADR look like a paper champ and their title match at survivor series doesn’t close the show, and by that point has no heat at all. What a shytshow :snoop:

Punk was a real victim of his time. He struggled to get legit n°1 wrestler spots and pushes because for half of his run there were still heavy hitters that either didn't want to give their spot or WWE refused to take it away from them because they were the safe option.

Then the pipe bomb happens and WWE has no fukking clue how to book it, making pretty much every wrong decision possible after MITB 11'.

Fast forward 5 years and WWE has no problem giving huge pushes to wrestlers than showed half of what Punk did at his peak and/or when motivated, and are almost begging for someone to create the type of spark Punk did. AND they have no fukking issue with their champion being off TV for months, that shyt in itself could've saved the Summer of Punk angle or at the very least make it interesting for more than 7 weeks :wow:
