I wasn't watching wrestling at all during punks run. When he sat at the top of the ramp and went off that was off script, right? Was that the last time he appeared for wwe?

It was public knowledge Punk's WWE contract was coming near the end, and it was strongly rumored that he wasn't going to re-sign. He was put in a feud with John Cena for the WWE championship just before his contract was about to run up. Cokeboy basically told Punk to air his grievances on TV in a worked shoot, which was the pipebomb.

Punk eventually decided to re-sign just before the Money in the Bank PPV, which just happened to be in Chicago (his hometown).

They sold the angle that was going to be Punk's last match in the WWE. So, everyone expected Cena to win with some fukkery. But Punk won the match and "walked away" with the WWE title. The match was a classic. Dirt Sheet Dave Meltzer gave it 5-stars.

They created an interim title that Cena won in the meantime, and Punk came back almost immediately after he "walked away."

And then Triple H and Kevin Nash killed off all of Punk's momentum :francis:

Well the first thing you have to remember is that Punk always believed he was one of the best overall wrestlers in the company but felt he was looked down upon.

From there he got start and stop pushes for the 5 years leading up. Eventually he was able to build himself up as one of the premier heels in the company but felt he still got overlooked. To make matters worse, The Miz main evented WrestleMania that year over him which pissed him off to no end because he felt he was the best bad guy in the business.

By the time June 2011 came he was fed up and wanted out. According to Punk, on the night of the Pipebomb, a writer told him "they're going to give you a microphone and they want you to air your grievances." He also told his friends that WWE said he could say whatever he wants.

So to answer your question, it wasn't scripted but Punk went a bit too far by talking about Vince and the anti-bully campaign. Once he hit that nerve they cut his mic off.

Funnily enough he wrestled for WWE for about two more years before leaving.

It is amazing how horribly booked punk was after he won the strap, you couldn't have booked him any worse if you tried, easily one of the worst booking decisions I can ever remember. From having him come back way too soon, throwing him in a fued with Nash, to the most egregious booking decision in company history by having HHH go over cleanly. The hottest wrestler on the planet loses to a part timer, no one was going to give a shyt about punk getting his win back 9 months later, that killed so much of his momentum. Of all the unforgivable burials HHH has done, that was easily the worst. At least the argument could be made that in the past HHH was a full time wrestler, by this time he was part time, it still pisses me off thinking about it. The pipe bomb and the MITB match got me back into wrestling and the way they completely dropped the ball afterwards made me leave again. Actually I don't think I've watched full time since then.

That interim title idea was ridiculous

But to let OP know

It was the BEST promo imo since Austin's 3:16 speech

What was more messed up was that Rey Mysterio won the tournament for the "interim" title and then John Cena just comes out and challenges him for the title and wins it because he's John Cena. :dead:

Interim title wasn’t ridiculous they do it in boxing and mma all the time
But him rushing back when he was already rightfully champion was foolish
Let he Wwe keep trying to play like punk really left with the belt and have him have a one off match with someone in roh or njpw where he proves he’s the best in the world while they still get to run with cena as Wwe champ in Wwe but fans know “yeah he’s your champ but he’s not the champ” type angle for at the very least one month maybe three at most and have him come back and face cena or whoever has the fake belt and punk wins. They could have done more Vince and triple h begging and pleading with punk to bring the belt back but punk playing it off and then have some corporate heel go get their belt back or even cena as the “face” of the company return the belt home.

Instead we got lol trips wins for no damn reason other then so triple h can pin the best wrestler in the world at the time. Punk said it best with colt cabana in that podcast
“He came out of retirement, beat you, and went back in to retirement”

The one idea I heard rumored was similar to what matt hardy ended up doing with the broken universe matches at the hardy compound and that was have gm punk keep the real Wwe title at his home in Chicago and guys coming there wih referees to try and take it from him aka like cm punk was a gym leader or some shyt and maybe get some local fans to see the matches as his own crowd hyped him up

:francis: shyt still bothers me. Dude was the hottest wrestler on the planet and getting them legitimate mainstream coverage. They were talking about him on sports radio and and other outlets because no one was sure if it was real or not and people fukked with what he was saying. He made the shyt exciting again with that one promo and then beating Cena at money in the bank and then bouncing. Then they fukked it all up. That booking decision is a microcosm of every booking decision they've made in the past 7 years. Because something caught fire and didn't go according to their plan, they were hesitant about it and didn't want to commit fully to it and it ended up hurting them more than helping. Punk went from being the man on the card to being just another top guy on the card.

There's no reason on the planet he should've lost to Triple H or should've dealt with Nash. In my mind, they've never fully recovered from that decision from a booking standpoint
