troy saved his life..n put money in his pocket

soon as he ran into j...he in love...face been a hoe

J had the better means, resources, networking capabilities and a already legit established label to get Face's music out there...

It made perfect sense to link up with J...and it seemed like Troy wasn't trippin' over it and understood. :yeshrug:

3-2 started out with Troy too...then ran over to rap-a-lot a couple years later like Face...is he a hoe too?:usure:

troy had everything j had...back then...short stop was legit and established..j did what alot of labels did when they came to houston..instead of makin new product with the new act..they gone rerelease it..the scarface/another head put rest single short stop put out made alot of money...

face was already bigger than every member of the original ghetto boys...troys resources..networkin capabilities...n already bein a legit established label..got face music out there...

if that single didnt move like it moved...j would had never met face..kuz if troy didnt have the connections..face album would have never made it out of dead end...

face n troy was cool up until the royalty checks from sittin fat down south came ...wasnt no problem... but the way faces contract is set up...j didnt get his cut...the 3 songs that had face on that album..

belong to troy in the first place...troy could have easily sued j over using the songs.. kuz when j signed face..all he did was rerelease the singles face in the street already that short stop put out..n jus tweak the beat a lil..

i remember bein on the set of dirty 3rd pt 2..with lil mario...seein how face n troy kickin it like they aint seen each other in yrs...which was true kuz troy had jus got out...i remember the i will snitch again shyt ..when pokey came n told em welcome back...n troy made the comment...

how many nikkas u kno can get out...comback to the hood with a snitch jacket n star in a movie.....n he was like push come to shove i will do it again if i had too..

face goes well shyt nikka u wont be talkin on my phone...and everybody laughed

5months later j hit em with a lawsuit...seen face at a club...the laughter they had awhile back..turn into ay nikka u need to pay j snitch ass nikka..boss need his paper

troy goes nikka james didnt have shyt to do with making of those songs...

when i picked u up in crestmont...j aint got shyt to do with me swoopin u n takin u to the studio...so fukk james..u getting your checks..dont come to me with no i need to..

him n face saw each other again..it was a different tone..troy was in new york for somethin..

plans for face to do a verse for troy was made..snitch nikka dropped.....troy asked em so u move to a new company n still doin ya boss dirty work.50 aint did shyt...

face tells em its not about 50..its about u...said he had nuthin 2 do with that release..couple weeks later face was doin damage control..

face is still upset balls n my word got put out..

j started destroyin troy in the streets...troy steady hearin shyt from face..that he claimed he didnt put out...so troy does the paperwerk shyt on face..n then dropped a doc...

face mad than a hoe...kuz his shyt in the street now...all because j didnt wanna take troys no 4 an answer..thought he was gone bully troy...

instead of checkin james..like he should have in the first place...face started rydin on troy...n troy didnt bother nobody...he cant help his deal with universal made sure his artist got paid...

So short stop had equivalent means of resources, networking/promotional capability, connections with local retail chains, radio stations etc. as rap-a-lot...even though Troy couldn't/wouldn't get something as simple as getting ahold of decent recording equipment for his artists? :jbhmm:

If short stop was the equivalent to rap-a-lot back then...why didn't 3-2 attempt to release material and come up under short stop's brand instead of rap-a-lot? :jbhmm:

The short stop brand didn't do shyt for Troy's group ANM.

At the end of the day...Troy dropped the ball and let all that talent slip thru his fingers by half-assing it with this music shyt...while J was all in...sold Face a dream and it became a reality.

I'm glad it worked out the way it did...for my music collections sake :whew:

And it's not suprising the "scarface" song broke big and got alot of buzz...it was a hot ass record period...you wouldn't have to put in alot of work for that...Face was coming with a new style, delivery and unheard of content at the time...when everybody else was trying to sound like Run-DMC in the city.

Recent interview from Troy from a few months ago

What’s the status of your beef with Scarface?

Troy: I don’t know, I’ve been over the Scarface thing. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen that Paperwork DVD I put out, but he made two or three songs about me and sued me and got $225,000 out of me. When I put the Paperwork DVD out, I was done with it. He continued to make songs about me, but to me, it’s been over with.
You got a problem with a person and see ‘em in the streets, you get it on. You get it poppin’. But we ain’t never got it on and poppin’. I just took it as a hip-hop beef. I come to find out after all these years why he really mad: He has a book out right now, and in his book, he talk about how I liked one of the other rapper’s songs more than his song, and that always left a foul taste in his mouth.
I never knew that until I saw it in his book. It didn’t say nothing about me and his beef. He didn’t talk about that. He only talked about when he first got started in the game, doing music with me and I liked one of the other rapper’s songs better than his and that left a foul taste in his mouth for all these years. That’s what it all boiled down to. It wasn’t no beef to me. I tried to hook up with him and [have] me and him produce my son’s song, but he didn’t wanna do it. So right now, I could give a rat’s ass. I don’t care no more.

troy mistake ..was the dope game had em well content...but when the dope is gone what u gone fall back on...

he could have really went hard with the music..

troy was the nikka that could get u in the studio..get u pressed up..n some money in ya pockets..

half of the legends in houston went to troy back in the gap..

wicket cricket, rp cola, willie d...n the main spot everybody who was somebody would break they shyt at..was

rhinestone wrangler..screw premier n dj chill was the djs..

lil troy wouldnt leave the dope game alone..

alot of 3-2s early music was with ricky royal..he had 3 singles..then he hopped back in the game..

took that lil show money flipped it...

troy ended up tryin 2 own clubs n shyt...i remember he tried to open one up in the nawf.....then he found out its coke in the nawfside..

32 was still a teen followin troy lead..n got locked up ...if it wasnt from ricky royal gettin 3-2 back in the mix on that born2wice album...the convicts n 3-2 woulda been a shoulda woulda coulda..

j knew the meaning of longevity when it came to music..j coulda been like troy n big j...n kept in the dope game..he learned from their mistakes...

Troy mighta had some sway on the local rap scene...but J had it nationally...he was somehow able to get "Grip It!" in stores nationwide without the benefit of a major or indie-major distributor...where he had nikkas like nas, wu-tang & pac listening to the shyt in NY & Cali in the late 80's...Troy couldn't have did that...not immediately off the bat anyway.

J had/has some relationship to Def Jam and dates way back then.

On the original GHetto Boys grip it! tape cover (gHetto with an H) def jam isn't credited as a distributor...only rap-a-lot.

But if def jam did have some type of involvement in helping get the album in stores nationwide...that would backup what i said about J having superior networking channels to get the music out.

I'm not saying they were a distributor. I'm just saying that J had connections to them and that's something Troy didn't. I suspect that on the low there is more to their relationship that's been presented to the public. I don't think it's a coincidence that face went over there later on in his career. So I'm actually agreeing with you.

Holy shyt.

Me and my boys were RAL crackheads back in the day. One of my friends Used to read the liner notes to find who the home boys were and copped their albums and shyt. LMAO

He was the first nikka who knew about ugk, no limit, cash money, three six and shyt and had ALL them nikkaz indy releases.

Still mad we never got a second Convicts, Odd Squad, and true TMT album ( no Bar None sucked on Playas Choice). What happened to Bar None anyway?

It's a damn shame another Odd Squad album didn't drop. I wanna get Devin on my podcast and ask him a bunch of shyt. But I mainly wanna know about that lull in his career after Fadanuf Fa Erybody (95-98) and after the Dude (99-01). I know @shopthatwrecks mentioned Face tryin to get Facemob poppin stifling his career, but I wanna know how he felt.
