I don't have cable and when I did I didn't watch much ESPN. I'd either watch a game I wanted to see or read some highlights online after the fact. Question for the ESPN watchers - aren't there around 4 or 5 ESPN channels. Is there really enough desirable content to warrant the number of channels?

Reading this story makes me think of the problems Cable News has now. So much air time to fill with so little actual news (or desire to address real news). The void gets filled with more and more personality based content providing a "different twist" on the same stories.

Is the issue that there's demand for ESPN but the price point is too high for the consumer since it's bundled with a cable package? Or is it that people just don't want to watch ESPN to the extent they used to?
ESPN fukked up by trying to be everything but a sports channel instead of focusing on the highlights and calling it down the middle they try way too hard to push agendas and create personalities.. Its great they have personalities but they do too much with their bias.. To sports fans the ones that made the channel popular thats a huge turn off.. We just want to see the highlights with a little humor in between I dont need to feel like they love the patriots and hate the cowboys or they love brady but hat TO that shyt is corny.. real sports fans know people like skip bayless over reacts to that type of shyt and with so many other options that give you the highlights straight with no bullshyt its easy to tune out..

The problem is there is content on demand online (YouTube, Twitter, Netflix, etc) that you can get from so many different mediums and people don't need to go to their TV and turn to ESPN or pay for cable at all to access it.

That's why many cable companies are launching internet packages or merging with internet providers. I expect internet prices to rise rapidly over the years to balance it out for them.

This entitlement by big american companies, that makes them think they are entitled to have a control over the market is the reason why so many people cut the cord.. I hope cable companies are not able to get in on the internet.. cable had a good run, but they about to be like the radio. They should have gave us the option to pick your package al a cart style.. thats basically what we are doing with netflix and hulu..

I know right, how you just gonna drop a wild claim like that with no facts, like its common knowledge.. This is how rumors get started

but theres not enough people watching say the nba to make up the difference of literally everyone watching cable tv subsidizing the league by giving companies like espn/turner billions for them to give the nba and not watching a second of the product. tailoring ads to the microscopic set of fans who care enough to order season long nba league passes wont make up that earnings gap, and it wont even be close. 100 million folks had cable a few years back. 87 million have espn right now. how many league passes would amazon/facebook.youtube sell combined? few million tops? probably less. right now 87 million people pay to watch the nba, and only a couple million usually do on a nightly basis

YouTube red can't even take off. Thing is no one wants to pay for anything for a young generation & half of em block ads. Cable has to be damn near free with TV shows full of product placement. A generation is trained to think content should be free because of Napster & then the nail being social media.

Maybe ESPN needs to sell a premium snap chat with nude women and sell T shirts to fund their business.

this!!!

people are acting like cutting the cord means they take their $150 cable bill and invest it into paid services and streaming

no.... they downloading shyt, sharing passwords, maybe got 1 netflix account with 8 other people with the passport, stealing music, streaming free music, and jailbreaking their firesticks

doesn't matter what these cable companies do and they know it.. .which is why they keep testing more and more areas for download limits and raising the prices on internet.. they know what's coming and they are going to make money one way or the other

In the last three months leading up to the election Stephen A and His and Hers went stone FCKN crazy for Hillary on the air.
You can't do shyt like that and then claim you don't have a liberal bias. They would literally demand that Tom Brady explain
his support for Donald F. Trump. GTFOH...Whom ever that man or anyone else supports is their own GODDAMN business. They would grill Will Cain
on a daily basis, even though he admitted on air that he did not vote for Trump. I would sit there watching Mike and Jemele ranting on and on about Trump
and thinking "I bet 25% of the whites on the ESPN campus were voting for Donald F. Trump." I think the 6 is gonna be reworked before long, I can't make it through the whole 60 minutes. I'm out after 5 minutes, 10 at most waaaaay too preachy. Same with First Take, Stephen A gives me nothing but angry black man, I don't need that shyt. I watch Shannon Sharpe's whole two and a half hour show and never feel the need to fast forward.

BTW, about the election I did not vote,
of the four top candidates
Donald F. Trump, Khazar adjacent, daughter converted and married to Khazar, grandchildren
Hillary Clinton, mother was Khazar
Bernie Sanders, Khazar
Jill Stein, Khazar

Wake Up...Wake the fukk Up....!!!

St Louis Rams!!!!!
^ The only reason they went at tom Brady was b/c the media wouldn't press him about like they do black athletes.

Also, just b/c maybe only 25% of whites at ESPN voted for trump doesnt mean shyt.
We can see that this weekend when they called white player who got kicked out of school 5 times a redemption story but would rant about kizer, mixon like they killed somebody.

ESPN fukked up when they fukked up SportCenter IMO. I was cool with having SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, NFL Gameday, College Football on Saturday, OTL and Sports Reporters on Sunday. shyt if people remember they would run all kinds of outdoor shyt on Saturday mornings (which were basically infomercials because they were selling the products that the people were fishing and hunting with) along with bowling until damn near 12 or 1pm. shyt I remember when they showed old wrestling also.

Then came Pardon The Interruption and Around the Horn which were cool as fukk but after the success you got all of the other shows that were basically rip offs and the movement from actual sports to debate. SportCenter and other "highlight shows" went from 3-5 minute highlights to 60 seconds of highlights and a whole bunch of filler talk. You would be able to watch those shows and basically see what happened during the whole game in that 3-5 minutes but now you see a homer, a TD or a dunk and then talking heads for 5 minutes. ESPN made personalities on SportsCenter and its the reason why we watched but now its forcefed and we have a million shows under the same format THAT TALK ABOUT THE SAME shyt ALL DAY LONG. Thats why we no longer care, I can't even remember the last time I watched something on ESPN that wasn't live, shyt watching the draft was a chore because Kiper was the "good guy" while Gruden played the "bad guy", what ever happened to just letting these guys talk about what they thought instead of following a stupid format. I'm all for debate and fukkery and but that CANT BE EVERY SHOW.

If ESPN ever figured this out they'd be on top again.

That's my point. They have all these shows talking about the same shyt. And why run sportscenter until 11 then go live until 1 just to talk about shyt? How you have a entire channel dedicated to sports but only spend 60 seconds on highlights? That shyt is what pissed me off, at the very least sportscenter should be the highlight driven show with a little humor and leave the talks by points to the other shows so I can can get my highlights and keep it moving. Also I know some of the die hardest hardcore sports fans I don't know a single one that gives a single fukk about post game interviews or mid game coaching interviews. That shyt does not need to be aired live, I wish that trend would die. Better yet have an entire second show that's not sportscenter that just focuses on the post game interviews and press conferences. Hell they could run the press interviews on espn 2,3,4 or 5 and if you care that much just switch over it's the same company. Anyway. Yea they started feeling themselves and got away from what made them hot and tried to cater to casual and women. Same mistake WWE made when they said fukk anyone over 12 and started producing kid shows. Their ratings ain't been the same since

Naw that's not fair not that many people are able to download and steal shyt. Sharing Netflix accounts ain't stopping them from being the hottest thing out right now. And it's not like Netflix is new I think they have found out the secret. Like I said times are changing it's time to destroy and rebuild. Bandwidth limits won't cut it. This generation understands one important thing. TV doesn't run their life, the tv isn't the center of entertainment anymore and it's only going to get worse

well i wasn't saying who was dominating what... i'm just saying traditional cable is dying and it's not all over content.. people are still watching these shows.. new cable shows are still breaking records for viewership, and that's not counting on demand and downloads and streaming from the websites

but the new generation is pretty much saying fukk cable and that high ass bill.. not when my mom has a verizon password and she can just give it to me and i can literally stream everything on her cable... if that didn't work i'd download it.. if that didn't work i'd youtube it

take espn.... you cut off espn.. are you done watching sports? nah... you gonna find a way
