It’s the end of an era at ESPN New York.

“The Michael Kay Show” will conclude its run in afternoon drive on Dec. 13, The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reports.

Kay will remain on the station but move to a solo show in mid-days, while his co-hosts in afternoon drive, Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg, are expected to remain in the slot and be joined by Alan Hahn, according to the report.

The contracts for the new afternoon drive program have not been finalized.

It is still to be determined whether YES Network will simulcast Kay’s new show and/or the program in afternoon drive.

There has been a synergy with Kay as he has called Yankees games on the network since it launched in 2002.

He had been the radio broadcaster alongside John Sterling from 1992-2001 prior to becoming the TV voice.

The move to mid-days, while less financially lucrative, gives Kay a better work-life balance.

Hahn had previously been on-air in middays with Bart Scott, who is expected to now move from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and be paired with Dan Graca.

This show would replace Mike Greenberg’s national ESPN Radio show on the New York airwaves.

Rick DiPietro and Dave Rothenberg will remain in morning drive in the lineup shakeup.

Don't listen to ESPN radio anymore but Yates was always the fill-in when the big dogs were on vacation and I immediately tuned out

I remember espn gave the brothas and sistahs a corner “undefeated” with Jamel and him and a few others, it just never worked how they wanted it plus it was nothing unique to them

He hosted one of the late night shows before.

Show us the the ratings comparison to when the original host was on or other guest fill ins.

He also does a role on one of the soap operas.
When's the last time you've watched him. Do you watch on a regular basis? What's the time slot and ave demographic?

Was in creed with MBJ/Majors

:yeshrug:

What major sport's caster hasn't been in a sport's movie the last 40 year's?

I say this because I'm 41 and all sport's movie's since I've been alive always has sport's guests in the movie's.

I'm not hating but your points don't mean he will succeed in a late night role.

1. I dont care too. If you care that much about the number you can look them up yourself.
2. No I dont watch, but since they have had him on a number of times, they must like him on there. They just played his most recent appearance on the show on First Take.
3. Still stuff outside of ESPN.

I didnt say he would succeed in late night shyt. I simply listed examples of SAS doing shyt outside of ESPN that ppl seem to show interest in him about.

He also had a best selling book, no I never read it. I also never been to a taylor swift concert or know when the next one is, does that mean she didnt sale any tickets?

Late night television has been dying for years now and I don't think he's the one to help save it.

He needs a better team around him as he's been in the game too long to have some of his peers eclipse him in some of the avenues that they have.

Surprising it took this long to pull Greeny from radio considering he had barely been on there these past couple of years.
That 12-2p ET time slot is always a revolving door. Yates will be there for a bit and we’ll see if he gets another gig out of it…but it always seems to be an irrelevant time-filler.
