That’s actually not. The morning drive time show is a more coveted spot and most people don’t do it solo. I don’t listen to it currently, but being familiar with key and jay, max would easily be the best host on that show.

Would you rather have your own solo radio show (which Max does currently) or you rather split one with two other people? The only person at ESPN right now that is doing radio solo (other than Max) is Greeny and you're not going do demote him by making other talent co-hosts on the show or an ensemble cast.

id rather be part of the 2-3 man crew that has the most coveted spot, 6-10am - the most listeners, the bigger ad buys and most prominence. Having your own show doesn’t mean much, especially at a dead time like 2-4, deadass in the middle of the workday for the entire country.

Going from co-lead on First Take to a 2-3 man crew on morning radio is a step down regardless of how people try and spin it. The spot that Max had ESPN was throwing $30 million at Skip to come back and do, so let's not act like him leaving FT isn't a demotion lol.

Also remember that man will be going from ESPN to ESPN2 with this move.

You stay comparing apples to oranges. We were talking radio spots. If there’s a choice between not being renewed but keeping your dead radio spot or not being renewed but moving to the premier radio slot 6-10am, im taking the latter.

With all due respect, you'd be a crazy if you stayed and you knew you had name recognition enough to get your own show or at least be the co-host of a show on another network and not have to resort to going to morning radio.

If you haven’t noticed, this is a cost saving money from ESPN in having a rotating guest chair which is cheaper than paying another host for the full time roll. It’s exactly what they’re doing with College Gameday and not replacing Taylor’s spot.

Them cats at ESPN aren't trying to take demotions out here and less bread that comes with less high profile gigs. You're going to be looking to leave or see what else is out there.

What else is out there exactly? All these networks are in the same position. ESPN is the top of the sports world, even radio. Max has done radio for years, you can make millions doing it - cowherd, Patrick, stern, etc, you can have name recognition from it, espn airs it on tv. You act like there’s people lined up to give him his own tv show. Undisputed is probably FS1 most highly rated show and only does 100-200k Max ain’t about to go over to fs1 and create anything bigger than whatever remaining options he has at espn.

and I’m not sure how many different people have to tell you with radio, having your own show doesn’t trump being the 6-10am slot or the 4-7pm slot. Key jay and zubin is not doing well beyond just the changes to commuting from the pandemic, that’s a big door open for max there

Exactly. We literally saw Greeny leave morning radio and got $6.5 million to do Get Up and TV. He’s literally making even more now since they moved him back to radio and take Le Batard’s and old radio spot.

You could make the argument that First Take is ESPN’s flagship show over Get Up based on the traction that it gets. That’s exactly why they have SAS showing up on there the way that they do and not vice versa.

What do you mean by flagship? It’s the most talked about due to SAS’s hot takes and virality, but ratings? PTI still holds the throne doing 2x the number of viewers FT does.

And max wasn’t going to be on FT anymore - that’s a sunk cost. But that freeing him to host the morning slot over his own show buried in one of the worse radio slots outside of graveshift is an upgrade. Y’all don’t understand radio if you think simply having your own show matters more than where you’re slotted

You aren’t trying to be demoted and go back to morning radio even if it’s a coveted radio spot. That’s the point.

Greeny got $6.5 million to leave Mike and Mike and go to Get Up. Imagine how much bread he’d be giving up doing the inverse even if it was still a coveted radio spot.

Max’s radio spot doesn’t mean shyt if the only reason he’s in the gig in the first place is because on First Take in the morning. That’s double income, which is exactly the double dipping that Greeny is doing now.

People are literally sitting here acting like he’ll still be making the same double income bread when it’s not even close to being the case.

You’re bugging if you sit here and say you’d be cool with taking a demotion and the less bread that came with it.
