Exactly. Wayne's World was a SNL movie. It was written and starring them...We're the Millers was based on Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston stripping all over the damn trailer lol...let's be real here. And please don't tell me that people are comparing Sudeikis years and skits to the early 90s years and skits? :hartwtf:If so, this isn't a serious convo at all :mutanthaha:
Nostalgia is clouding your memory. Those years you remember so fondly were being dumped on.

Ill see if i can find you the documentary. Those years were poorly received and the cast was basically forced out. You grew up with them and watched them so youre attached to them.

Gimme a minute ill see if i can find you a link.

How can you say a show that has produced about 50 big comedians isnt the most?

Think of all the movies, tv shows, etc that have sprung from it.

Snl has had a significant job in shaping comedy consistently for 40 years.

Because I think a show that has spawned so many imitators or great shows because of what it did for comedy and animation gets the nod in my eyes. The Simpsons isn't just a sitcom and isn't just an animated show and isn't just satire or parody or romance or sci fi or mystery. It's every dman thing. It can be incredibly smart or incredibly juvenile and it showed how to do all forms of comedy right. Hell brooklyn 99 owes more to the Simpsons than SNL. Most comedies on tv right now are doing what the Simpsons did years ago. Even animated shows on Disney and cartoon network owe a debt to the Simpsons: making something animated but writing it so that adults and kids can get it and love it for different reasons while also slipping stuff past the sensors. Most of the cartoons that came on afternoons in the 90s owed a debt to the Simpsons. Doug, rocko's modern life, animaniacs freakazoid tiny toons etc. it's influenced live action and animation. If that's how you feel breh that's how you feel cause you're my homie but I just disagree. For me it's the simpsons because most of the comics on SNL once they leave they go and imitate the Simpsons. Sometimes you get someone like Will or Mike Myers or Adam sander and Farley who have their own very specific comedic sensibilities

But it's not just a Jason Sudekis flick. Love him tho but that movie didn't score just off of him. There's a lot that went into the success of it. It's not like Wayne's world where so much of it came down to mike and Dana or mean girls which is from Tina's mind or anchorman which is clearly Will and Adam just doing whatever they want.
But where would jason be without snl? Certainly not starring in that movie.

And it goes beyond that. You got guys that have great stand up careers from snl, you got fallon and meyers hosting talk shows, tv shows like 30 rock, parks Nd rec.

Even smaller guys like jay mohr have carved out good careers from being on snl.

Just give him a link to the SNL in the 90s thing nbc did. The mid 90s cast wasn't poor received as much as they were pissing people off if I remember correctly

But a lot of people have succeeded in spite of SNL. Let's not act like everyone dope who came through that show was given a fair shot or a success. Larry David, Chris rock, Sarah Silverman, Ben stiller, Julia Louis Dreyfus and even Robert Downey Jr came through and it didn't work out. Sometimes you get your career because you're funny and your talent is going to be recognized regardless. Jason probably would've still gotten the movie regardless but like the homie @kp404 said a lot of butts were put in the seat because they had Jennifer stripping in the trailer

Youre thinking of norm macdonald. The execs hated him and forced him out.

I'm thinking of Adam and spade and Farley too. It wasn't working for the network and they gave them the boot. Norm too obviously cause he didn't give a fukk who he pissed off but they weren't exactly ingratiating themselves either

Still looking for a link but heres an excerpt from an article

Every single era of Saturday Night Live has had its ups and downs, episodes that are brilliant and episodes that are terrible, this period is no exception. Despite my memories of nothing but Deep Thoughts and spot-on commercial parodies there are plenty of bits and characters that either failed to stand the test of time, or were never funny to begin with.

Eventually the quality control began to slip for the show. By the 94-95 season the show began sliding in the ratings. New York magazine published a cover story on the show, dismissing it as unfunny and over with. Lorne Michaels has said that the closest he’s ever been to being fired was during this period.

Much as he had done during the poorly-received 11th season Lorne Michaels brought on several already-established comedians like Chris Elliott, Michael McKean and Mark McKinney to try and mix things up. While the new cast members were all hilarious on their own they weren’t able to change the direction of the show the way Michaels had hoped.

Plenty of comedians arent built for the improv/skit nature of the show. Guys you listed are stand up types.

But they still got their name out there simply being on the show. Nearly everybody that goes on snl is an unkniwn on the national level. Just having their name attached to snl is a boost for the career.

Not Larry David and Julia or Ben. They got their name out there by doing their own thing once they got kicked off the show

Andy sambergs lonely island alone had more impact then simpsons in the last ten years.

And think of all the notorious musical acts that have happened. Hell lana del ray launched her career off of her snl performance.

All the political skits that have actually affected politics.

Snl was on 20 years before simpsons and was affecting pop culture then before groening even conceived of the show.

And your last point is very true I just think that since then the Simpsons has had more impact breh. That's just how I see it

Look all im.saying is people have been repeating the snl is garbage stuff forever.

Those 90s years, the older snl fans thought was garbage. And the peopke that loved the 90s thought the 2000s were garbage.

But right now kids are growing up with the show and to them its their golden years.

Thats the beauty of snl, its been able to consistantly win over new generations again and again and again.
