Phil was cool. But man a lot of the skits back then were bad. I have almost all the best of dvds. And the weakest ones by far are farley/sandler/myers/hartman.

Hell the tracy morgsn one is funnier.

Station here in canada, muxh more music plays old episodes. And most of them from those years are terrible.

Except jack handy. Deep thoughts is the goat.

Hm agree to disagree then breh but clearly you know your shyt. I think the Phil Hartman Dana carvey mike Myers years are untouchable.

But the Simpsons has begat so many shows. Arrested development 30 rock south park modern family. The list goes on. It's impact is still felt regardless of whether it becomes a pop culture moment or not. And having a successful movie in 07 is a pop culture moment breh. It wasn't like a "success" it was an actual success critically and commercially. 7-11 redid themselves as Kwik-E-Marts. The show just did a week and a half long marathon that gained viewers as it went on and basically launched FXX. No Simpsons no Conan also. The show continues to have an impact breh even if it's not cool to like it or watch it anymore it's hard to deny its impact.
Simpsons had a big impact no doubt. But snl is>>>>. Not even just the stars but the writers. Adam mckay, tina fey, seth meyers, john mulaney, hannibal burress, lonely islan(akiva).

Whens the last time a year went by without an ex snl cast member movie making over a 100 million?

:mjlol:Whatever you say dude. I grew up on those and still watch them to this day and they hold up WAAAAAAAY better than anything after 2000...Will Ferrell saved the show by himself when nobody else on there was funny, but the crew in the ;89-'96 season had the best writers, actors, AND sketches...

And to even suggest that tracey morgan and bill hader/sandberg skits were better is ridiculous, but you cool on here so we will just agree to disagree

I'm the biggest Will Ferrell fan on this site and I defend everything he has done, but I can't put him above the Chris Farley, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, David Spade years...its not even close actually...'89-'96 are untouchable breh.
The public perception of those years were that it was awful. Hell thats why they basically let the entire cast go at once. They even did a skit about it on their last show, all the members jumped off a bridge.

When will came in he made the show relevant again. You can watch various behind the scenes snl documentaries covering this.

Theres a reason will has 3 best of dvds and nobody else has 2.

Does it count if its just Adama Sandler? because Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, kristen Wiig, etc. all had movies this year and last year and none of them did particularly well. Not saying that SNL didn't make great stars, but you giving them way too much credit dude

yea: its called capitalism. Ferrell's movies make shytloads of money, so the SNL bosses want to CAPITALIZE off of his popularity, so they gave him more dvds. Its that simple. When Wayne's World was out, you saw Mike Myers everywhere. it has nothing to do with Ferrell's seasons being better at all.

Which is an unfair comparison because Simpsons writers normally stay with the Simpsons or just go off and do their own things. The most famous ones stay on the show minus Conan or they retire. The show continues to get good ratings for fox even tho apparently no one watches it and it gets great ratings for FXX. I feel like it has the bigger impact especially since someone like Tina fey cites the show as an inspiration for her in what she tries to do. And I don't recall the ex snl cast member flick that came out this year that was a success. Tina is in a movie I want to see. but what did I miss? And I know that may come off as jackass like lol but it's not I seriously cant think of one from this year

But it's not just a Jason Sudekis flick. Love him tho but that movie didn't score just off of him. There's a lot that went into the success of it. It's not like Wayne's world where so much of it came down to mike and Dana or mean girls which is from Tina's mind or anchorman which is clearly Will and Adam just doing whatever they want.

Any time Tina Fey stars in a movie it's guaranteed to do less than 100mil.

Exactly. Wayne's World was a SNL movie. It was written and starring them...We're the Millers was based on Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston stripping all over the damn trailer lol...let's be real here. And please don't tell me that people are comparing Sudeikis years and skits to the early 90s years and skits? :hartwtf:If so, this isn't a serious convo at all :mutanthaha:

How can you say a show that has produced about 50 big comedians isnt the most?

Think of all the movies, tv shows, etc that have sprung from it.

Snl has had a significant job in shaping comedy consistently for 40 years.
