rap needs a pipeline that doesn't go from youtube -> mixtape -> hype blogs

not that i have any bright alternate ideas about how to funnel new artists in

:yeshrug:

Breh, it's the internet age... that's how it's supposed to work... Youtube has replaced the hitting the streets and passing out cds or begging people to buy your mixtape and hitting open mic

could you even imagine a rapper, coming on the scene...and nobody knowing any of his work? and not having any type of internet presence? in 2012

how could you even explain some shyt like that

Okay my point wasn't about the technology. I'm saying this pipeline has a stylistic bias. I've ranted about this a lot before but these online blogs like complex/pitchfork/etc are a particular ecosystem that hypes up trash artists just cause they start bubbling on youtube and within this collective

so it's not about blogs per se, I don't have any complaints with 2dopeboyz for example. The problem is that the old structures of rap magazines, A&Rs etc is all melted away and in the hands of these hipster hype blogs. We need another ecosystem as well that has another aesthetic bent

If I end up making some money in the next couple years eg have 50 grand lying around I might just go ahead and make my own online publication and hire some of the old school writers fukk it

It's actually great imo, the internet is the best thing to happen to musicians in a minute. They just gotta realize it and cut out the middle man until they're of use.

True no bullshyt, the cockroach hipster contingency(and big money) has done an excellent job of corroding away the standards of the art and left us with this bullshyt. A magazine dedicated to that real would be great right about now.
