Saquon Barkley will sit out of week 18. Eric dikkerson's record is safe.

They had nothing to play for. Also, Eric dikkerson's record was over 16 games so people would have tried to put an asterisk anyway.

the asterisk woulda been stupid since dikkerson's broke OJ's record which was over 14 games.

edit: already addressed.

Its also crazy that this wasn't OJ's best season.

In 1975, OJ had 2,243 yards from scrimmage and 22 total TDs. :damn:

It might not be untouchable because now players have 17 games to get it, and soon to be 18.

Just 4 years ago Derrick Henry had 2027 in 16 games. Saquon has 2005.
People do forget about Henry's season when they do these Saquon comps. Henry had multiple 200-yard games, more touchdowns, more long runs, etc...

Henry has always been a better back than Saquon and his 2k year was a better 2k year, even if marginal (22 yards). Henry is legit one of the greatest backs to ever play the game. Saquon isn't in that stratosphere yet, we've had running backs have All-Time seasons and/or hit 2k (Jamal Lewis) who weren't All-Time players, they just had unbelievable seasons. Shaun Alexander is another one...

Saquon's career high before this season was 1312. He's +700 over that, this season; this year is such an anomaly to his career. He's always been a good player, but he's never been anything close to what he was this year. He could have a few more years in him like this, or '24 Saquon, could be his '03 Jamal, or '05 Alexander season....

Because to-date he ain't never been close to what he is this year. I'd go for the record because chances are we not seeing another Saquon year this great, but I understand not going for it, it's okay. You'd be in some real trouble if he or Lane Johnson or another lineman got hurt trying to get this record. I get it...

I agree no single-season record is untouchable anymore. They'll all be broken in short time, with the increased games. It is what it is...

NAH IT WAS DEFINITELY TALKED ABOUT.

I WASN'T EVEN WATCHING FOOTBALL
DURING THAT TIME AND I KNEW ABOUT IT

This year is definitely the most I've seen you talk about football 🤣 how you all of a sudden get into football?

I think people who follow NFL still acknowledge Henry's year but it was kinda muted because it was a pandemic year...

Breaking records is more than physical ability and talent, it’s about the right circumstances as well.

Plenty of players in the NBA can break Kobe’s record of 81. It’s just rare that a player can score that many points and still have a legitimate need to still be in the game.

Saquan playing at this point would be stat padding. He already doesn’t have as many yards as other former players in fewer games so the “record” is really pointless.
