illegal immigration is a federal crime handled by the federal government. local and state governments don't have the authority to administer deportations, but they do have the right to choose whether they check immigration status and whether they refer this to the appropriate federal government agency.terrible opinion
if your local or state government feels that's unnecessary, something they don't want to do out of principle, out of the will of their voters, etc is really on them.
No one should be in favor of the federal government asking or attempting to extort states to change their own laws and punishment because the federal government is unable to do its job.
