As great as Sam Cooke was he wasn’t even the best singer of his era (that would be Otis). And in all honesty I think R Kelly would’ve been universally seen as the greatest ever if he weren’t such a sexual deviant

This was LIVE. Just listen to how breh emotes on every line/word :wow: that's a far cry from reading the lyrics and singing as expected

Same here. Again, breh was LIVE :damn:

I love Donny Hathaway, but... .

And just like Ray Charles, Sam could take a terrible ass Country song and absolutely kill it.

Sam was dope, it'd have been interesting to hear how his sound would've evolved and the influence it would've made, but he just ain't seeing Donny :ohlawd:

I agree, Sam had a way of taking just about anything you threw at him and making it sound amazing. If that's the qualifier then he's in the running. But if we're talking soul-stirring, reach from the gut and leave your whole heart on the track-- Donny is that man :wow:

He was leaning more toward blues toward the end. That Night Beat album is a must listen.

Breh, only cacs think Otis Redding is a better singer than Sam Cooke!

Otis himself would have laughed at you for even suggesting he was a better singer than Sam!

:wow:this. Donny was the epitome of musical madness. Dude was a tormented spirit that try to guide those that needed a brighter tomorrow. Sadly, he wasn't set free his own self:mjcry:

There was a really great article on this year's ago by that artemus gordon cat on global grind...

Basically goes into detail about Cooke's manager Allen Klien setting it up because Sam was going to drop him.... Klien went to his death bed owning the rights to Sam's music.

The Asian bytch was an informant for the cops.
