Lets face facts here. Robert Parish is simply not a hustler in life period. He sounds like a dude who still puffs that good dro daily. I'm thinkin' like maybe if he started to make a name for himself around 10-15 years ago he would be in a nice position today... He doesn't even need to ass kiss or be this super social type dude either. His name in itself holds major weight-and that's only if he played his cards right. He was one of the greatest big men to play the game. Maybe he could've done the Hakeem route and opened up a big man's camp. I believe he's from the South, there's no doubt in my mind he could've easily started off coaching at a HBCU if he was really about some x's and o's then maybe with some success move on up to a lower tier ACC or SEC school as a coach, and that's if he was really about coaching. It sounds like he's just about a paycheck and coaching is whatever.

IMO he simply isn't using his name right to open up some doors. That Lakers/Celtics era is what blew the NBA up on a large scale so those guys on those teams kinda got Cart Blanche when it came to coaching and gm positions and in everyday business affairs(magic johnson). you just had to map out a game plan and at worst at least appear to be serious about what you were trying to accomplish. Parish was a big time weirdo on some other shyt, weed head, introverted steeze. He didn't seize the moment nor the opportunity like he should have. It could've been small shyt- return a phone call here, show up and shake a few hands over there. no matter how introverted you are you can do that shyt. All those old Celtics heads ate whether black or white. ML Carr, Dennis Johnson(rip), Cornbread Maxwell, etc. Parish was just a weirdo on some other shyt and it came back to bite him in the ass

A former player beign a PR rep for the team is a joke of a job.

He prolly got $80K to do squat but make an appearance or two a week on behalf of the team, or travel in an al expense paid trip to make appearances or attend meetings.

These former players turned analysts probably make anywhere from $80-100,000, so I dont know why he thinks he deserves more.

And truth be told, if they did ANOTHER "50 greatest payers of all time" lists, he wouldnt make it. :mjpls:

:what:

Comments from you about the NBA will no longer be taken seriously

The fact you think that the future of the NBA includes skilled 5's shows you know nothing about the game...

explain how jackazz. "Robert Parish" is a name brand in the NBA. He's done nothing after his playing career but sit in his home, ignore all phone calls and wonder to himself why isn't on a coaching staff. Players and coaches with one-tenth of his credentials have dug in deep and accomplished way more than he ever has as far as post career success.

Nyggas so short-sighted breh. You never know that co-worker you hit with the :umad: one day is your boss or supervisor. Never know when you need that classmate who is now a PHD candidate to write a letter recommendation. Dudes out here burn bridges just to nowadays. Dudes don't realize you will live to 65-70 and so on. Better have that money stacked up or else you going be begging. :sadcam:

Absolutely.

Before the Bobcats were formed and given to Bob Johnson, Larry Bird was trying to put together a group to buy the new franchise. He was even putting down some roots in the Charlotte area, and part of the attraction was that he was already going to have a team in place. Bird was gonna run the basketball operations, it was widely assumed that he was gonna bring on someone like Rick Carlisle to coach, and the homie ML Carr was gonna be in some kind of community operations role (he's from the Charlotte area). Point is, this probably doesn't take place like this without networking and cats building with one another.

LOL at Bird and McHale reading the article on some "Oh, NOW Chief wanna get at us? :heh:"

I'm sorry.....but if they DID do a new list for "50 greatest players of All-Time", I agree, Robert Parish wouldnt make it.

He's not even a top 10 Center of All-time:manny:

The professional leagues and especially the NBA is different though. Erik Spoelstra started off watching tape for the Heat. They were likely paying this mufukka with Sour Patch Kids and Subway vouchers. No way in the world for a tape person to get 80k a year. Now he is making 2.75 mill this year. Put in the work and things will look up.

Can't be an a$$hole all your life and then when things go wrong, bytch up and cry and start pleading for help. As I've said before, there is no reason why Charlie Batch deserves to be on an NFL roster but because he is a great locker room presence and isn't a prick, he's getting a million a year to fly across the country to chill. Besides, this story says that he made $24 million in his life. HE SHOULDN'T EVEN NEED TO WORK!

That's not a good comparison though.

Erik Spoelstra was a young guy trying to get into the NBA ranks without a legitimate basketball background.

Robert Parish is a Hall of Famer Top 50 Player guy who is sixty years old. To be frank, Robert Parish doesn't have the time to slowly move up the ranks.

I understand where Parish comes from when he feels like he already put in the work.

But, yeah, if nobody likes you as a person, you're not getting the job. That's in any industry.

And I wonder why…..

Tell me, have you seen Chief play?

And how do you know him so well to assassinate his character like you're doing right now…

You are making broad statements about a guy( whom you've never seen play more than likely) based off of one BS interview…..

But that's what white folks and c00ns do when it comes to black men so I'm not surprised

This is like the original "Aunt Viv" from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air expecting to get a job from Will Smith or anybody else on the cast when she admits she never talked to any of her castmates unless the cameras were rolling. Now everybody from the show that wants work can get it besides her. All the Celtics from back in the day living comfortable off the game except him. That anti social shyt ain't good for upward mobility.

:dwillhuh:

Erik Spoelstra is white privilege at its finest…..

What pedigree does he has……???

Parish is a GOAT, 3 time Champ with over 20 years experience in the NBA..

What's on Spoelstra's resume?

How does he get to become a coach of a squad like Miami?

I'll wait for your response, but I'm sure you don't have a legit one...

Being an assistant coach /scouting director for 7 years prior, not even factoring in the 6 years prior he had just working up the ranks in the organization.

Say what you want about Spoelstra, but he put in the work to move up, a helluva lot more than Parish has.

No, you'll get your response and your answer. Again, what does past accomplishments have to do with anything towards future prosperity and success? Michael Jordan is the GOAT, so by virtue of being the GOAT, he should be a kickass owner, right, RIGHT? As it turns out, playing the game of the basketball and being on business side of the game are two different entities.

When injury more than age broke up the lineup—Bird leaving in 1992 with an aching back, McHale in '93 with a bad back and ankle—Parish kept rolling. His back ached sometimes, but his body held together. He left Boston as a free agent after the '93-94 season, playing with the Charlotte Hornets for two years, then the Chicago Bulls in '96-97, earning a fourth championship in his final season. When he retired, he had played more years (21) and in more games (1,611) than any NBA player.

And he followed the plan, did what he and everyone else in the Celtics' locker room said they were going to do. He did nothing. "I found out that I was very good at doing nothing," he says. "I wasn't bored. I traveled, went to the islands, lived on island time. Very nice. I read. I saw my four kids. I visited my parents."

Robert Parish left the game vowing never to return. But - 07.12.04 - SI Vault

This is Parish's own admission

Several years ago, his representatives reached out to all 30 NBA teams. Only two called him back. Now he’s trying harder. “I’ve been guilty of that, too, not returning phone calls.’’ he said. “We all have. “

We live in a world where Stacey King, correction, Stacey fukking King is a Bulls announcer with three rings off of the backs of Michael and Scottie. Bill Walton had to overcome a speech impediment to become a broadcaster and he is crying while not answering phone calls.

ESPN.com - Page2 - Bill Walton

I read somewhere recently that you said you felt that joining the lead NBC announcing team was one of your greatest accomplishments ...

Walton: It was the greatest accomplishment.

How so?

Walton: Well, for someone with my problems and limitations, with the obstacles I've had to overcome ... you know, basketball was easy, but to get to the No. 1 team in broadcasting ... I mean, I'm 6-foot-11, I've got red hair, freckles, I'm a goofy, nerdy-looking guy, I've got a speech impediment -- I stutter and stammer all the time -- and I'm a "Deadhead." When I started in this business 12 years ago, I couldn't get a job. They'd look at me and say, "No way, Walton. Don't call us back and don't come around here any more."

It was that explicit?

Walton: Absolutely. And now, to be on the No. 1 team, it is without question the greatest accomplishment of my life.

Why is he not offering tutelage to Jared Sullinger or Big Baby Davis in the past, even it if starts off as free. You have to start somewhere and everyone's starting point is different. That's just life. You are simply not going to show genuine interest by telling Danny Ainge that you have NBA League Pass, I'm sorry, it doesn't work that way. There is Reggie Miller for TNT, previouisly Mark Jackson for ESPN. Tim Legler or Brian Shaw for the Pacers. Basically, how is he not out there making money? He's lazy as fukk. He's already acknowledged that he's closed doors on opportunities by not returning phone calls.

Parish, who earned roughly $24 million in 21 years in the NBA, says he needs a job with a substantial six-to-seven-figure salary. “I don’t want to have to start over. I’m not homeless and I’m not penniless, but I need to work.”

THen we get this

The Celtics hired him in 2004 for public relations work, but Parish found the $80,000 salary too low. “I want to make it clear, I’m not whining, and the Celtics owe me nothing. But having said that, you would think at least I would have a conversation about a coaching job, since that’s what I want to do.

He turned down opportunity. From what it sounds like, that was the only think juking and he still turned it down. I can't offer any sympathy. .

Maybe Spo wasn't ignoring phone calls, turning down jobs that weren't seven figures or burning bridges with past teammates.....common sense is hard for nikkas here sometimes isn't it?
