i also said good writing for his actions, presumably being given proper subtext and maybe even some good directing so that he at least moves in an interesting way even if not speaking. if he is written and directed in a way that just has him staring at people, that is, in my opinion, when he goes off the rails because he is kind of creepy when he has nothing to say or do.

Agree with this thread. People thought his acting in Drive was some revelation when he said nothing and had the same facial expression for 90% of the movie. Dude has been making the same face and talking the same horrible way since he played that gump in remember the titans. Not a surprise the most successful film he's been a part of has him with damn near no scree time. I'm not even sure homie was relevant enough in ROT to get one of the spots in the last flash forward video at the end of the movie.
His most successful movie is 'Crazy, Stupid, Love,' and he has plenty of screen time in that.

He might not necessairly show range like people expect but I think hes pretty good with his presence he brings to the screen. Particularly Half-Nelson, Lars and the Real Girl, Crazy, Stupid Love and Ides of March.

Although I've come to realize that Gosling is indeed not this "great" actor that he's sometimes made out to be, i still think it's an insult to compare him to Keanu.
Keanu is horrendous.
Gangster Squad looked cheesy in the trailer. I assumed it was a cash grab by the cast from jump.

for sure, the comparison is ridiculous. Reeves was an historically bad actor, perhaps the worst big time actor in modern history. He could only strike one note in his movies, had zero range, and his characters had the depth of a teaspoon. Goslling may be a tad overrated, and getting by on his looks, but hes in another galaxy when compared to reeves.

. How the hell did he carry the Matrix? It was the story and special effects that made Matrix...damn near every decent actor could've played that role just as well or better. How Keeanu kept getting major roles is a fukking mystery to me. His performance in Devil's Advocate damn near ruined that movie
yessss, powerful cast in that Pines flick and kinda diff role for gosling as well. only god forgives though, even in that small 20 sec mini trailer, u can see that dark gritty "drive" vibe him and that director seem to have an affinity for. as much as i enjoyed drive, im syked for to see that film.
