putin isnt a communist. not being good at capitalism doesnt automatically make you some communist. the man is a tyrant and a russian chauvinist. his nationalizing of business is out of necessity - why would any leader leave abandoned assets alone while the populace becomes even more disgruntled and hard to manage? this is a desperation move.

This is the dumbest part of Putin’s NATO paranoia. Nobody wanted to take Russia from him.

No one in Europe has economic ability to absorb the population of Russia.

So the worst case scenario now is Russia is essentially absorbed into China and they get access to all that oil and gas to fuel their economy instead of making deals in Africa and the Middle East.

Also, the Chinese government only cares about China. China views Russia as a "strategic acquaintance" against the United States. North Korea is the "strategic buffer".

Originally he wanted to annex eastern Ukraine, a puppet government in Kiev, a compliant Ukrainian state, and a warning to all other old Iron Curtain nations that they better kiss ass to Russia or the same shyt was going to happen to them. In that he would gain greater perceived power to himself and prestige to Russia. He thought he could do that fairly easily.

That went badly right off the bat, now he doesn't know at what point he can stop and save face so he just keeps going.
