I'm not one to cheerlead things like this but I will say the US military and state department messaging on Kiev has been brilliant. The US talking point (or "propaganda") being presented is that Russia plans to take Kiev. However, Russia has never stated this and more importantly...they can't take Kiev unless they want to do a MASSIVE bombing campaign which is unlikely. So a Russian invasion, where they fail to push west to Kiev, will immediately be labeled a failure because Russia cannot achieve a goal set for them by the US. It's pretty smart.

This could be a long, protracted quagmire for Russia. I don't see the benefit for Putin.

So assuming the Ukrainians don’t attack and Russia can’t keep the “saving lives”justification for going forward you past their eastern friendly section, what’s so worthwhile in the East to take the brunt of those sanctions?
