i just don't see anything wrong with foreign media people who are backed by foreign govts having to register as foreign agents. america's goal is to sow discord in russia, china, iran and elsewhere. russia, iran and china's goal it to sow discord in america. i don't believe in persecuting these agents if they follow the rules you establish for how they operate in your country (in america's case it's do whatever the fukk you want), but there should be no pretending what their goals are.

Not necessarily. If you are a US citizen but lobby on behalf of another country then you have to register as a foreign agent. Spying is just the most extreme version of acting on behalf of another nation.
