Especially after his statements the other day where he basically described the communist era as a betrayal and flippantly dissed the leaders.

Putin is not a communist and this isn't a USSR revival. That's a lazy take that ignores all the information that's shouting at you.

Putin is re-establishing the Roman Empire, not the USSR. He openly hates the ethnic states that the USSR created. He believes they dissolved the Russian empire for no reason.

Guerilla warfare disarms major military forces. Hell, apart of the reason why I think the USA will never be invaded is, that you won't even touch the military because random citizens will give em that work. If the Russians came to my hood, "cash money is an army..." The average American has too many guns at our disposal.

But, I do think Russia is in for a problem. They were "surprised" and still taking your planes and your soldiers down with a disunified front.
