I mean this seems like Putin’s only hope.

He started this war avoiding the winter and now he’s drawing this out in hopes winter will break Europe into stop supplying Ukraine with weapons and call it a day and give him a defacto win.

These conscripts are just proverbial bodies on a train track to slow down Ukraine.

Who knows what happens in an autocracy when they have to go home a loser with blood on their hands? It’s not like anyone can call for a free and fair election. And all the power people are Putin acolytes.

Europe stockpiled enough gas for the winter months ago. Putin has no plan now but to hope he can hold on to what he has by sheer number of soldiers.

You’re saying Europe but that’s a lot of individual countries so do you actually mean all of them at affordable prices for individual households?

I’m just assuming stockpiles only work if it’s not your main source for several months. America can fill in some but that’s a lot of overseas hauling.

Right. Say Putin fails and is removed, the rest of the world isn’t remotely out of the woods yet. Putin probably isn’t the most hardline member of his party, and he could be replaced with someone more extreme albeit with less of a capable military. Plus the West’s and China’s hands are going to be vying to influence whatever administration comes in after. It could get really sloppy.

I bet he was proud after making this odd juxtaposition.

Tom Clancy's brand has always sold the Hubris of America, no matter how messy, as a needed force in the world. So why would anyone ever think that he'd avoid the sexiness of the "Dues Ex Machina" for the boring, little understood or talked about act of diplomacy to sell his thrill based novels?

Can't speak for the rest of Europe, but Germany is at over 90% right now and will reach 100% soon.

However, that 100% is contingent on there not being extreme weather this winter. After the winter months, they will be at zero.

This is what their economic minister said a few weeks ago.

Natural gas. Germany has stockpiled 90% of what they believe they will need in natural gas supply for the nation for the winter.

Ukraine and Russia are major fertilizer and wheat manufacturers and traders for the world, and we see food shortages worldwide because of it.
