The Ukrainians are steadfast in defending themselves and seeing themselves as separate from Russia at this point. They will deal with ann insurgency for who knows how long that it may not be worth it hold their land. Ukrainians at this point don't see themselves as fellow Slavic brothers in arms with Russians.

They haven't really ..well atleast since officially after World War 1.
