I'm a South Korean - born & raised, fulfilled my mandatory army duty and is a reserve (now living in NYC, though). NK does TONS of inhumane, evil shyt and yes we do care about the well-being of NK people and despise their gov. You'd want me to post links - not gonna do it bcuz it's gonna be in Korean and you wouldn't understand anyway. We might not show it to the outsiders but we're still very invested in the issue (as we should be) and the main reasonsthe current president has at least some popularity and support is because how she dealt with NK and Japan.
Shyt is still very real. I'll tell you how real it gets.
A lot of my friends were stationed at border bases - every once in a while, when there's a birthday of a soldier or a new private coming into base, them NK mofos would send congratulation messages over the PA speakers naming the exact names of the new comer or the bday guy. Just to fukk with us and let us know that they know what's going on via their spies. I'm 100% sure we do the same thing to them vice versa too.
The Korean version of CIA is going over a major NK spy scandal RIGHT NOW as well.
