Ok let's take a look at our backs
Runningbacks
Raheem Mostert
A few years ago Raheem Mostert was a journey man who had bounced around the league until he came to San Francisco in 2016. For most of that time he was a standout special teams player and solid return man but he played some time as a runningback and had some impressive runs but broke his arm in 2018 . End of Season. In 2019 due in part to Tevin Coleman not playing as expected Mostert got more plating time in 2019 and made the most of it. Between the regular season and playoffs Mostert rushed for over 1000 yards and avg a league leading 6 yards a carry. Mostert isn't just fast he's Florida fast and his ability to gash defenses on side to side runs is second to few. But he has good enough vision and the strength to run between the tackles too. Mostert is a late bloomer but he now has he notice of the league as one of it's most talented backs. At 28 he basically has 1 year or 2 of prime left but I'm sure he'll make the most of it.

Tevin Colemen
Former back from Atlanta, Tevin essentially followed Kyle Shanahan to San Francisco. Unlike Mostert I don't think Coleman is quite the speedster but he is more of a tradtional between the tackles RB. WIth that said despite amassing about 800 all purpose yards for the team last year (playoffs included) He has been inconsistent and has disappeared at a few key junctures. Maybe he was nursing an undisclosed injury or just out of focus, but considering he makes more than Mostert, he is going to be held to a higher standard than your typical change of pace back. I know he'll make the roster but if doesn't have a more consistent season in 2020, he will be a cap casualty.

Jerick McKinnon
After making over 8 million dollars for essentially rehabbing the past 2 seasons. Jerrick decided to restructure so he can stay on the team. According to all accounts McKinnon is ready to rumble but we'll see as this has not been the case. McKinnon is a specialist and is more a pass catching back more than anything else. With that said, he was said rto run receiver type routes and with even softer hands but he hasn't played a snap since 2017. So he'll either be the missing head of a 3 headed running attack or if he gets hurt again, they'll probably reach some sort of injury settlement and move on. I don't have a crystal ball to say which way it will go but we'll hope for the best.

Jeff Wilson
2018 UDFA. Played mostly scrub time and special teams in 2018. 2019 he ended up being used as a 3rd down/red zone back to pretty impressive effect. He managed to punch in 4 TDs last year and in all honesty, he could reasily supplant both Coleman and McKinnon on the depth chart with a strong camp and preseason. I'd be fine with seeing more of him next year he moves with a head full of steam and lowered shoulderpads.

JaMycal Hasty
2020 UDFA. JaMycal Hasty is a potential diamond in the rough pick. JaMycal has quick feet and bursts through holes with a lot of gusto. He can also catch passes out of the backfield as he proved in Baylor. Also despite being 5'8 he is also a willing blocker. One thing he has to work in the NFL is ball security. The division is filled with big nasty linebackers and safeties who would be happy to knock the ball out his hands. But with a little seasoning he has the sizzle to be another Matt Breida type of player.

Salvon Ahmed
UDFA from Washington. This guy is RAW. He has near elite speed (ran a 4.53 in the combine but most scouts say he's much faster on the field). He is a back who would really work as a 3rd down, outside run back, the speed is there. Problem is at 5'11 195lbs he is borderline birdchested for the position. He's not built for contact and I am unsure his frame can not put on more than 5 lbs. I think he will be stashed away as a practice squad player to see if he can put on a little more weight and refine some things like blocking and finding the open hole.

Unit Analysis:
Runningback is a carousel where Kyle tries to put the best guy on the field. Mostert has emerged as the definite #1 and Tevin Coleman as the #2 but after that it's anyones race including the rookies. That back half of the depth chart could be interesting. Especially with us having shipped off Matt Breida to Miami. Even so there is a lot of explosiveness in this unit if everyone stay healthy
