Also when it comes to his friendships with Cacs here's how I look at it. MJ never got the chance to "grow up" with any other kids that weren't his brothers so he thirsted to be around people who had similar experiences. He also sought out mother figures. First Diana Ross, then Jackie Kennedy, then Elizabeth Taylor. Also Lisa Marie Presley was one of the few people on EARTH who understood what it was like growing up being rich and super famous from childhood.
MJ never completely turned his back on his black heritage either. He made sure to pay tribute to Jackie Wilson during that historic night when he won 8 Grammys.
