kind of like how people in this thread think there aren't smart people at Disney, Netflix, Amazon, etc
Nobody is disputing the business acumen of the people at those respective companies though so this point isn't equally potent.

It's a lot of armchair experts talking as if there's some random dudebro just winging it at Sony while MSFT has sweaty financial advisors writing up business plans.

This whole convo only devolved into console warring nonsense because reasons.

The funny thing reading posts in this thread is some will say the guys at MSFT are smarter than anyone who slightly disagrees with them because they have data and numbers but then simultaneously believe there aren't smart people at Sony doing the same thing.

Weird one sided appeal to authority going on here.
There were smart people at Blockbuster that saw what Netflix was doing, came up with a response to it, and had Netflix so shook they tried to negotiate a truce. Netflix was going to take on BBs online division and enter a partnership with the retail side. Those smart people lost out because others in the company weren't willing to lost some money in the short term.

It's a very difficult thing for a market leader to sacrifice for the future like that. Pretty sure GM made an EV and had it out before Tesla. Now GM is looking to play catch up to Tesla.

The very existence of this Spartacus seems to acknowledge that there's serious validity to having a prominent subscription service. Like the Tesla to GM comparison Sony had this stuff going before Microsoft ever have it thought. A subscription service that let's you stream games. Sony had that first. Now they're looking to retool things to compete against someone that came out after them in the space by at least 3 years.

This is a more reasonable take than the other takes that Sony are just twiddling their thumbs while they may lose out on something they can easily take advantage of since they have a huge library of past games that can be retooled for current gen through PS+/NOW. I even said this last year:

I feel like they could easily bolster PS Now's library by leaning on older games from past generations.

Add more PS1~PS3 titles along with PSP and PS Vita titles. Think PS TV but through streaming for PC, Android and IOS. Add a 1080P streaming option and create an emulator for PS5 so PS1~PS3 games can be played locally and bundle all of this with PS+ for an additional 5~7 bucks a month. I don't know why PS Now is not on Android yet.

They can differentiate themselves from the competition because all of them are vying for the same games but Sony can use their older IP's and library to boost the game count.

Scrap the PS classic crap and just throw all of those games on PS Now. I think this way they can get more subscribers without committing to putting their AAA games on the service day 1.
I'm a visionary because it looks like what I said should be done is somewhat being done now(Merge PS Now with PS+).

This will apparently be a 3-tier service, with one of them allowing access to a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and even PSP games

Man I know wtf I'm talking about. :lolbron:

I think the biggest takeaway here is that psnow felt redundant and stagnant for sony so instead of killing it they are rolling that work into ps plus. People trying to act like this is some big desperate reach to compete with gamepass are projecting their weird insecurities into something minuscule as a re-branding.

Sony have been positioning themselves for the cloud/digital transition since 2014, hence them starting a cloud gaming service and releasing a digital console last year.

Nintendo are the only ones who are stuck on the physical side of things for the unforseeeable future

The people that win generation after generation and are currently winning this one are horrible business people :heh:
Sony exclusives go on PSNow after the launch window
WTF is putting it day 1 gonna increase?
Because Sony doesn't scream subscriptions numbers like MS does cause it's all it has

It really sounds like there were believers in the company in the subscription / streaming service but they didn't have enough power to get the company behind it in full. It was purchased and started but languished as the company found more success elsewhere.

Somebody else comes up with a disruptive business model and there must be someone at the company ringing alarms about it. The reality is Sony's gaming division is doing historic numbers. Nobody is going to truly interrupt that.

And here we are at the crossroads many others have also come to. Do we combat this disruptive business model full on right now and squash it in it's infancy or do we take some half measure and let it grow and fester attempting to deal with it later? The reality is it's never going to be easy for Sony to switch up what they're doing. Doing it when they're the market leader and the threat seems small or doing it when they're the market leader and the threat is actively disrupting them either way it's a hard pivot.

People will confuse me for an Xbox guy but I'm not. I don't play much on Xbox. When Game Pass was announced with day and date games also on the PC as well I thought it was stupid. Ask Courtdog cause we argued about it. I'm still a PlayStation gamer. Again my exophase details all the games I play in the sig. The fact that I've come around to this. The fact that if you go to online spots where gamers gather and the sentiment around Xbox is completely changing and people are coming around to this is telling. These sorts of things start with the hardcore and enthusiast and trickle down kinda like when Mattrick did his hard pivot to media and the enthusiast rejected it causing the Xbox One to get shellacked last generation hard.

They should offer day 1 discounts for all exclusives if they aren't gonna release them for free like gamepass.

Sony probably doesn't have the revenue to do what Microsoft is doing and day 1 free exclusives is a big deal. Sony has to offer something to compete with that, a 20-30 percent discount for new exclusives for subscribers would have people sign up just for the savings.

this is dope for playstation but still shows sony fans have no clue what gamepass actually is

if you dont get day 1 exclusives, you're just getting PSnow basically tied in, with old ass games you've already played

the positive side of spartacus and gamepass is that your friends have the same exact games as you, so you can play whatever. But you gotta offer something actually exclusive that isnt 2-3 years old. That only works if you just dont play games and miss a bunch of releases. Even at cost, wouldnt it be cheaper to just buy the Season Pass versions of the same games for 20$ a piece by that time? They would have to put money into dropping first day releases. Its pointless speaking to weirdos on the internet about real money and structure of shyt because the same people were the ones saying Gamepass was trash :bryan: Grab you a CDKey and get this spartacus shyt and gamepass for 50% off for years. Both consoles get to eat real fukking good if this is done right.

Dudes don't get it in here. They keep reverting to fanboyism and I am discussing business. Sony holders want to know why they are missing a quarter billion dollars a month that Microsoft is capitalizing on which will get higher once Starfield/Elder etc.. comes.

Sony has to come up with a plan and this is the start. Dudes keep talking hardware sales when that shyt don't jackshyt when the competitor is putting their products on TV's Tablets Phones PCs, with not additionally cost in sight. Sony holders going to want that quarter billy share sooner rather than later.

This explains why Phil said Sony is not their competitor. Google Amazon are

This is why people don’t take you seriously :mjlol:

You still on the fanboy shyt. Microsoft has 20 million plus subscribers thats a quarter billion a month. Sony can't let this continue as more games and third-party titles are locked in agreements with Microsoft. It's business 101. They have to create a service to gain a competitive edge. If they allow Microsoft to gain a significant lead that shyt will be too late. You think Sony shareholders will allow that shyt to happen.

Consoles sold don't mean shyt in this discussion
