I don't get it, how you in America for 3+ years, in a profession where learning it is important, and you still can't speak English

Mind boggling :dead:

If i dumped you in asia.
Would you learn any Asian dialect tho.

Sesame street is not the same quality it was back in the day.
Plus it does not come on loop on pbs like back in the day as well.

So learning a foreign language has got to be world's difficult.

Not to mention,.... he is black.
So it comes with hella baggage.
In general we as black people
I. General because of circumstancea completely out of out control.
we can not readily explain in every situation.
Just imagine having a language barrier.
Plus being black and asian in america.
He living a reverse double whammy life like jaden in karate kid.
Except he had to do it a fifth time.

One being born in asia ehile black.
Two playing a stereotypical sport for a black man and fitting the requirements.
Three going to play for a national team where you ethnically are alone.
Plus the only outlier for the country in more tangible ways than one.
Four going to college with a language barrier. While being black.
Fifth coming to an america sports team and being black from asia.

Dude mad young.
Expecting someone to just get it with ethnic and language barriers from another country. That has no black nationalism whatsoever.

If you flip it how many basketball players you know speaking Mandarin. Marbury ain't fluent as far as I know and he got a statue over there nor is any other NBA player who's been in China for years or none of the WNBA players who were in Russia for years......or even Spanish. Kobe was the only US player any of us know that's bilingual off the top of our head.

I don't judge nobody for the language barriers because I ain't learning nothing completely if I can pay translators. I'm good.

This is true. But at the same time mandarin is considered one of the hardest languages to learn in the entire world. While foreigners state that English is one of the easiest and why many non English speakers state it's easy to fake an American accent.

Not sure how fluent Rui is in English. I never seen an interview of him talking. But the kat been in the states 5 years if you count his Gonzaga years and wizard years.

"Bu bu bu what about what about " babble

Enough of the excuses. You are in a country for 3+ years, and you can't speak the language of a country, especially when it's very important to your livelihood and profession, you should hold that L :camby:

And if Marbury hasn't learned Mandarin by now, he should hold that L as well

It is kinda crazy tho, Japan only had a handful of NBA ballers before him, and they actually have another one on the raptors right now which is a great sign for the sport in that country (specially cause South Korea catching up )

But I know them Japs salty that the One player good enough to be drafted.........was half black........they probably over there thinking "of course he had to be half brrracku, it's basketbarru!" Smh, but judging off what he said about his situation fukk them people and I hope he come back and live up to his potential

English can be easy because of the base structure of it, but gets really tricky to communicate or understand in a clear way because of how we handle colloquialisms and context and slang. I took French for 6 years and my French professor said the flexible way we use English day to day can't really be done in other languages so it's difficult to keep up. I'm only saying I ain't judging him for the language part of it.

I do judge him for not finding a community of people he feels comfortable around. I've lived in another country and the first thing I did was find a bar that showed college football and NFL games so I wasn't stuck in the house with no friends. That part is on him. He gotta do the work to make sure he's not such a fish outta water when he's not with the team. Spokane ain't DC so I'm sure Gonzaga probably babied him through that part of it and now he's on his own without that safety net in a tiny ass town he's spiraling.
