Trust the Shooter is really good, he should just did a double disc and called it a day. Layers on it's own is not good.

Disappointing.

I struggled to keep interested. He can spit, but when its bars for bars sake, it gets tired real quick for me.

There's a handful of really good songs, but the rest is forgettable. Some songs are just outright trash.

Shame, because it started off so strong (first two tracks).

This album doesn't flow and there's too many skits.

Mixtape is better.

There's only 3 skits tho. One skit is kinda a song as well, but not with Royce rapping.

I think there were much more dope/memorable songs than forgettable ones. Only about 3-4 tracks at the most I didn't vibe with all like that.

I don't feel like the skits added anything, so that's 3 too many for me.

I don't think the album is trash, but I'm disappointed. I know outside a handful of tracks this album gonna get tired very soon for me.

I don't think the skits were entertaining or anything, but they did at least make sense in setting up the songs that followed. I can see from now mostly listening to the album in order that the skits set up this Lincoln character really in context to how Royce views himself different from him and I believe to a degree, a personification of some people's views of music/hip-hop and state of living/being in general. I won't argue against it being better executed or more entertaining tho, but at least they have a purpose.

My copy just shipped. Not expecting much after reading the comments on this thread. Where does the album rank in relation to Street Hop and Success is Certain?

I personally think it's better than both of those, as the rhyming is better and the overall beats are better. That's just me tho.

I mean it's not just the actually skits, it's at the beginning of actual tracks too. It's not a big problem but it did affect my personal listening experience.

It's just not cohesive to me. To follow the first two tracks, which are a highlight of the album, with hard just threw me off. He sounds off on that track, by the end of it, it sounds like he ramblin :manny:. Beat knocks tho

Like I said, there's definitely some fire on here but I was hoping for a dope cohesive album. My initial thoughts are that isn't what I've got, but it's still early days and theres plenty to digest.

That's cool and to some degree, I get that. I also kinda felt the same intially with Hard, in that it's a lil jarring initially. A lil bit with Startercoat as well, but nonethless, the beats and rhymes are still essentially thorough. The last track, "Off" or whatever, is the only one that it really seems like a bit of rambling to excess to me.

So do you think it'd probably just been better with a different sequential ordering of tracks tho?

My fav. tracks so far are:

Tabernacle
Pray
Wait
Shine
Flesh
Layers
America
Dope (while this one is a kinda minimalist on the rhyming tip and initially even kinda odd content-wise, I see what he was doing here with the Lincoln inclusion previously and I just love how smooth that beat).

Hard and Startercoat are growing on me as well.

I don't know breh. To start off with two of the best, if not the two best, tracks of the album ...... I thought I was in for a dam treat

Tabernacle, Pray, Wait, America, Shine (although it would have been better without the singing at the start and end).

Pray could be my pick of the lot :whew:

Cant stand Quiet and Misses.
