to be fair, that's the same dude who said that PRhyme album wasn't good & that some of the Outsidaz have better solo projects than Royce ever had...so if you liked PRhyme, I wouldn't take his opinion on Royce's albums too seriously :manny:

then again as a Royce fan (and I say this way too early because I only skimmed through the album twice) I might actually fukk with the mixtape more :patrice:

damn didnt know that. I still respect his opinion in general. I'm not even the biggest Royce fan these days so thats why i was asking around. I liked the mixtape for the most part...but if its better than the album then it must be a pretty forgettable album. Waiting for a good rip.

Another year, another slightly above average Royce album :ld:

First 2 songs are the best then the quality is a downhill rollercoaster from there. He tried :yeshrug:
You wasn't lying about the dip off after the first 2 songs.

And I stand by it nikka :birdman: Musical Meltdown and Won are still to this day better than every single Royce project.

The man's closing in on a 20 year career, it's time to admit the nikka is washed already. After all this time, he still can't put out an album better than a 6-7/10. I don't care if he has "BARZ", I don't care about him being "real hiphop", I don't care that he's tight with Primo who has long since past his prime. He'll never make a classic or even a great album. He just aint got it in him. He can't get right. Every upcoming Royce album is supposed to be "the one" when he should be on the two to the three and four by now. It's never gonna happen and this album changes nothing. Just take the 3-5 decent songs and trash the rest as usual.

Ehhh...I definitely disagree with all this. I'd say Layers is about an 8/10 at this point and probably his best produced album overall so far. I think it may even raise with subsequent listens and an uninterrupted, start-to-finish listen to let it all sink in.

My main complaint with it is while he got content there, he doesn't seem to stay on task with it for this album. Still plenty of dope tracks here on that tip or otherwise overall, despite that, but I wish he would've stayed on the deeper content parts of the album a bit more thoroughly and cohesively.

I also kinda wish that I hadn't heard Tabernacle, Wait (I hate when artists release some of their album shyt on their preemptive mixtapes and vice-versa) and Layers before listening to the full album. I suppose the Layers track listen would've been cool enough album previews to hear before full release tho. Then again, as much as I extremely liked that track, despite my nonchalant feelings towards the guest appearances on there (tho they really did their thing there), for it to have been the theme and title track of the album, I wish either he had rapped that one alone or at least had more verses on it and it had been a longer song if it was going to feature guests. I just feel that whatever your titular title track for your album being and if it's truly going to be the theme/backdrop/etc. of your album, then you should mostly do it alone and it should pretty much be the best track on there (the latter is close to being the case tho).

i feel like this album is gonna get old real quick, Tabernacle, Layers, Pray & Shine might be in rotation for a while though.

damn. i like young zee and the outz but i never felt any of their projects like that...i mean i might like Night Life Ep more than a couple of Royce's wacker projects but i def like Royce's catalog more overall..always thought of Pace & Zee as the ultimate underachievers...Royce is on that list as well but he has multiple projects that i love or like a lot....but most of them dropped in the early 00s.

:damn: the song in the video is phenomenal. I thought this thread was for the one track he made with ross and pusha. I like the video, and I like the song layers. I'm gonna definitely check this out.
