i think it has something to do with the fact that a lot of hip hop fans already thought nicki was corny and "starships" was pop bullsh!t, rosenberg sharing the same sentiments and voicing it to the public was cool to them. the eminem/benzino thing is a different dynamic, theres really nothing benzino could say to convince people that eminem isn't a beast on the mic and should be eradicated. benzino being one of the worst rappers of all times didn't help his cause either

plus you run the number one hip hop magazine and youre going at the number one rapper at the time, it didnt make sense. the source were idiots to think they were more powerful than the people that they rely on, the artists themselves.
Because Nicki can be conveniently packaged in to the "not real hiphop" segment these cacs cling to. In the grand scheme of things Em is probably the biggest gimmick in hiphop history, He gets a pass though because of his Marciano stature that the mainstream has inevitably given him.

all that is moot because of two things
1. eminem can rap his ass off
2. eminem isn't really trying to be a "pop" star or go pop. his music is "popular" mainly because of that, because he's not a sellout. its hard to attack his credibility musically, unless you wanna focus your attacks strictly on his "maniac" gimmick, but even with his gimmick, even that is kind of counter-pop so dude is teflon.

ehh, with a lot of his first singles he tries to make something "catchy" but i wouldn't really call that song a "pop" record, its just a goofy record, ha, its not really jersey shore fist bump euro dance music

Eminem is the only artist who gets a pass for dressing in drag and making corny ass songs like that. If any other rapper came out with those kinda singles they would be looked at as jokes and "not real hip hop" either.
