I'm glad most in here get Roman's point. He's not wrong but at the same time it's an statement that could be said about basically anyone from the past 20 years and bitterness has very little to do with it.

Now, I don't think anyone could deny Punk was bitter as hell when Rock cameback and took the WM 27-29 spotlight and main gigs. He had a right to be bitter, but then again he ended up working with Rock too and years later he went to the UFC and did the same thing to those fighters :dead:

Agreed. The Cena narrative is false. Cena got mixed cheers for over a decade during most of which Punk was picking up steam despite only being in ECW. By the time Summer of Punk rolled around he was way more over than Cena.

Punk was never as popular as Cena at his peak, come on breh, it's pretty obvious that's what Roman was talking about :pachaha: his mixed reactions didn't make him less over and by the 2010's booing him was in large part, a part of his act (though of course the internet still hated him and legit booed him, but they were always a minority except for few occasions) like chanting YOU SUCK at Kurt Angle's theme.

Punk didn't originally plan for Roman to be in the Shield. He wanted Chris Hero, but the WWE threw Roman instead. He probably has some vendetta over that :pachaha:
Also going on Cabana’s podcast and exposing those “Make Roman look strong” orders going on backstage which got the IWC to view Roman negativity even more

Definitely made Roman's life harder. Punk's morale was at an all time low when Roman was on the come up, so I doubt they had much of a relationship if any at all. I can definitely see why Roman would hold hard feelings.

It’s not an insult to say someone isn’t as big a draw as The Rock. That’s a once in a lifetime crossover superstar.

But considering who it was about and who said it… :hubie::hubie::hubie:

They changed the narrative to fit the mixed reactions which started in 06. By 07 fans grew tired of him. His pec tear while terrible, was probably a blessing in disguise. Cena's peak popularity was nowhere near as long as people think it was. Yes he had kids but the internet (which is NOT a tiny minority) was sick of him very early into his main event push. As far as being over as Cena's peak, you cannot tell me Summer of Punk was not at LEAST on par with Thuganomics Cena. The Cena comment is false. The Rock needle movement comment is 100% true though.

I mean, it was not. MITB 2011 didn't do big numbers and it certainly didn't touch Cena's run of PPV and house show main eventing in the mid to late 00's. There was no change in narrative, as it happens with every wrestler as heavily featured as Cena, fans just grew fonder of him.

The internet is a minority when you take into account that they don't go to house shows and scream for the main star, they certainly weren't doing it in Cena's peak.

If your argument is that Punk had more cheers than Cena...I guess? that's not what being over is though. If you get a legit reaction that doesn't damage business, you are over. Cena's mixed reactions were real but they also made WWE business have a legit spike after 02-04 and lasted for half a decade. Summer of Punk last 1 month before WWE fukked it all up.
