4Qs with Dane Brugler: Could the Lions afford to pass on EDGE early?

Drafting Willis would start the clock on Holmes and Campbell, officially. If you take a project QB that early - or trade down for him - you’re tying the entire rebuild to him. I just can’t co-sign that. I’d rather get everything in place, keep Goff, and then find a QB next draft when we once again have two 1st round picks. You can package them to move up. Rams aren’t gonna repeat and given how many players they’re gonna lose to FA/retirement, they might not make the playoffs.

Take the best edge rusher available and best remaining WR with these two picks. Then just build the defense and get another starting TE. Lots of draft picks, this could really be our moment to secure a successful 2-4 year window.
They're keeping Goff. He was serviceable in the latter half of last season. They have no reason not to keep him.

Lions send 7 reps, including Brad Holmes, to Kayvon Thibodeaux’s pro day

If we don't take Thibs it'll be because Brad wasn't sold. I'm fine with that. Let's see how it goes. Every year there are players who get slandered by ESPN and the draft media regime. It's Thibs this year. The talent is worth the number one pick, I'm not letting people talk me out of it because "bubububu he has interests out of football."

It kills me that the combine has so much weight on it. Like, did the last two years not matter? That's why I hope Jacksonville takes Hutchinson so this will be ours. Some of the idiots on 97.1 make no sense about him.

Give me Jameson Williams. They need a true #1 wideout. Both Super Bowl teams had one (Rams had two); the Chiefs, Bills and 49ers had one as well.
None of them was drafted in the first rd. Damn sure not traded up for in the first rd while being injured. Everybody falling in love with offensive players again when the lions need 2-3 starting linebackers and defensive backs and a d tackle. And y’all wouldn’t mind a qb with the next pick.

Williams better be jamar chase level of good to justify this trade.

Jamar Chase was drafted in the first round. As was OBJ.

Last year made it clear this is about who you have at QB and what weapons do you have. Williams is the best WR in the draft and the faster player. We gave up minimal resources - and won the trade with the Vikings - to get him. That’s a clear net positive.

Lions need game changers. We got two yesterday.

Williams doesn’t need to be the best receiver in the draft after being the 4th selected in the round. He fills a need and this team isn’t in win now mode. Fill the roster with the best player available that fills a need and keep it moving. We have the rest of the draft for defense.

Feels so weird to seeing our gm complemented two drafts in a row. To hear the Lions celebrated at various sports news sources.

I live in Northwest Indiana so this is Bears country. Usually when I wear Lions gear, people have jokes. Those that follow football, gave us some props yesterday. I felt good enough about yesterday to rep on casual Friday today.

I put that on my board because I'm not with moody people bringing their attitudes into my office.

don’t forget about the defenses of those teams. U know that mattered too. Rams wasn’t sniffin no super bowl without that defense.

don’t be so quick to talk about winning the trade with the Vikings before any of these players step on the field. Especially if the Vikings restock that defense from this trade.

yeah i was talkin about everybody except chase. Obj ain’t on that level.

Williams need to be an all pro receiver to justify this trade. Just being good they could’ve stayed at 32 and 34 and plugged in another starter on defense and still got a good receiver.

i hope he is wonderful and i don’t have anything against him as a player, I’m just saying i wouldn’t trade up to take the 4th receiver and he injured when u got the best d tackle and best safety sitting right there and they both fill needs too.

How can you not like the value of that trade? They traded up 20 spots in the first round AND got pick #46 while giving up 32, 34 and 66. That's a home run deal to get an ELITE talent. Williams would have been a top 5-10 pick if he didn't get injured.

And now they done drafted another injured player :dwillhuh:
Lions gave up a third and two pick swaps to move up 20 spots in rd one. That is nothing. Bears gave up their first this year to move up 9 spots for Fields last year

With the run on WR Lions made good decision to not sit pat. No comparison between Jameson Williams and a prospect like Christian Watson at 32 and 34. Only reason he was 4th was because of ACL.
