We are different then...because 2-14-1 IS the story. I really don't do excuses, and only provide explanations. In your example, a D- is still a D-. And the lions have been trying to explain away and "we were x many plays away" 9 losses seasons our whole lives. Just win, and these players are not good enough period.
Nobody is making excuses. What I'm saying is you can be 2-14-1 and get blown out every game and you can be 2-14-1 and be competitive most games. This is a team that was torn down to the studs on a rebuild. The fact that they've been competitive in so many games matters. That's especially true when you consider the roster is devoid of high level NFL talent. This is a roster that couldn't produce a single pro bowl level player.

I'm not going to sit up here and pretend that they're in a great place but it will say that they're possibly a few years away from making this an acceptable team again.

The Lions haven't had losing seasons our whole lives either. Even recently with Jim Caldwell they've had winning seasons. Some GMs have been better than others.

Also let's not act like a coach can't set the culture. The Patriots have a coach that totally defines their culture so coaches can impact that.

Right now the Lions aren't a good football team but they are still competitive.

The Lions have about 4-5 games they've lost that could have easily gone the other way. Their record is deceptive of the team's competitiveness. Campbell is likely going to slowly change the culture if he stays. The team lacks high level talent but still compete hard.
Don’t do the woulda coulda shoulda. That never works

I’ll enter the debate. This team is going to be very strong from guy 23 and lower with all the playing time the try hards are getting. An injury here or there shouldn’t derail our season like it used to.

Second, the culture has changed and it’s important to keep Glenn and the rest of the staff for at least another season so “buy in” will be easy to get from the free agents and the rookies we bring in. It wouldn’t hurt to keep some of the try hards at specific position groups either.

If we can hit in this draft it’ll be a much more promising season next year. I think free agents will want to play for Glenn and Campbell as long as the moneys there. This situation is the exact opposite of the Patricia led teams that couldn’t lure free agents like Richard Sherman.

I think the future is bright in Detroit for real this time.

I hope your right. He seems to have the full by in from the players, and I think through these injuries they've found a few players that can contribute for some solid depth. Get a few difference makers on both sides of the ball and look for a QB in next year's draft. The O line looking probably the best it's ever looked in my lifetime, abd that was without Ragnow. Shore up the other trench and they should have a string foundation to build on.

I just think this time will be different. Call it a gut feeling but I believe Holmes and Campbell will do things right. It's going to take time but I've just seen enough this season to conceded the Lions are on the verge of change.

It's the same way I knew after about a season of Pratrica he had to go. I thought Campbell would be a dumpster fire but he earned my respect.

Pretty solid first draft for Holmes. Only Levi has been somewhat disappointing. Sewell, Brown, Alim are getting better and better. Too early to gauge Melifunwu due to injuries and CB tend to take a while. Barnes and Jefferson have some potential. AJ Parker probably best find and Jacobs before injury

Might have lucked into a new long term kicker too

Holmes' vision really looking like some perfect "train on schedule" shyt right now. Drafted two DTs who have shown promise. Re-signed Okwara, who did get injured but should be good to go. And now we're poised to take Thibs or Hutch to solidify the d-line.

Holmes got shytted on for not taking a receiver earlier, yet the one he DID take late has turned out to be one of the 5 most efficient rookie WRs in the league so far. St Brown is legit and can def become a Golden Tate type player IMO. This draft is full of good WRs, and I expect to get one in the 1st or 2nd round. Drake London could fall to the second round due to his ankle injury for instance. That would be a perfect pick...

To me the big holes are LB and TE. Barnes is good btw, I'm just saying we haven't had a good or even great LB core in ages. Also safety.

I'm gonna be pounding the Jameson Williams drum with that Rams first rounder. I would even trade up for him if he shoots up draft boards, which wouldn't surprise me. He looks like Randy Moss 2.0 but slightly shorter.

Would someone like Huntley fit what we want to do as a backup? He’s keeping bmore competitive and he fits our physical run first offense.

I see why the kicker was an easy get. You can’t be that short on a 55 yarder and expect to be an nfl kicker :picard:
